Well. It happened.
We got hit last night in my town.
I actually live 5 miles outside of Shawnee and different power system, which was so helpful.
I have just had a knee exchange and wife and I were watching weather, as is always the case during storms in Oklahoma. We tracked the storms all the way to us. Trying to decide where to go... I'm not really mobile at this point, so we decided to ride it out in the closet. Sirens went off, power, internet all still on....half mile from the house, it took a due north turn. It went on and destroyed most of Shawnee. We never lost power, or tv...
This storm "cycled" 3 times, each slightly closer to us than last. 3 tornado warnings in 10 mins.
Wife is a teacher and was on the phone texting all her friends telling them where it was at and what was going on, to stay in the closet or tub. Shawnee had lost all power and comms at this point, so any information was so vital for perhaps survival. It's a hard feeling getting a text asking "where is it?!?!?!?
And having to respond, "just stay where you are, it's still here.!!"
Your friends.. . . . That are terrified with children, in the middle of a tornado.
And the texts prior to the impact checking on us to let us be aware, and the others checking afterwards to make sure we aren't in Kansas amd ask if we need help...
. I'm a humbled man, wonderful people.
This tornado traveled about 15 mph, so it was a grinder. Just devastating.
And getting a text saying they are ok but are trapped and the house next door is on fire.
No words. . . .
Okc and EVERY fire, law enforcement, and ems all came to my town. Dug our friends out, and many many others! I am so grateful for these first responders. Amazing men and women.
Tornadoes are not new to us, we have them every year, we have had 4 within a mile just this year.... but it always goes around.
Not this time. . . .
Just FYI, been a tough 24, thanks for letting me vent... I'm a bit sappy and messed up on oxys with tremendous pain in leg, so not thinking super straight.
Boys are ok, daughter is ok. What else do I need?
Spring is here guys, please pay attention to the skies....
PS
Take the care piston slap I'm happy to be here to respond and offer support.
Very sad to hear that. Hope all your loved ones stay safe and hope you get healed up as fast as possible.
Glad you’re ok.
Thanks boys.....I do appreciate you.

I live in the zone...glad you are good.
It's always a crap shoot. We're close tonight.
I feel ya PS! I live in far SW Okc and all those storms last night made for a long tough evening! Luckily for the wife & I, we never got under the bullseye this time around, BUT… I was the lifeline and only source of info to my younger brother who was riding it out in his shelter on his 45 acres in Etowah!
Spring weather in Oklahoma is a real bitch and when Mother Nature goes on a rampage like last night it can be really stressful! Glad you’re ok and hope Shawnee can recover and get things back to normal quickly!
I’m really sorry to all those that lost there lives and for all of those that had their lives scrambled beyond recognition!
Here’s to hoping the rest of our Oklahoma spring passes with no more psycho-weather outbreaks! 👍 ❗️
Man that was scary to read, glad you guys are on the other side of it I can't even imagine what that must have been like (I'm a whimpy Californian after all). Wishing you guys the best moving forward.
I watched it live from 2 different storm chasers streaming. Ryan hall started a weather YouTube channel that employs chasers and raises a shitload money for towns. His side kick andy hill was streaming the alerts that night. It's pretty cool thing,I've seen 75k watching at times.
100k he gave to town Mississippi ,main channel

Interesting how the cells rotated around each other. Looks like he gonna donate to shawnee

Dude! Those things start out there where ur at! You see most all I get 3 hours before. Thank you for the well wishes! Much appreciated.
When I was much younger....early 70's, we didn't often go to shelter, due to lack of warning or just passivity..but when we did, it was really bad. No cell phones. Our way of information was through am radio, little towns with stations everywhere.
I'll take cellphones anyday, and big love to you for talking your brother through it.
Even a little bit of info is necessary. . .
I'm glad we/youI/wife were in a position to help others, it could easily be me trapped next time.
Helping out even though you're helpless pretty much yourself helps a little.
God Bless, be safe.
Thank you Josh! You have earthquakes tho... lol
Peace man
I watch that guy too!! He is a hoot! Pretty damn good too!
Those cells rotating like you said, just insane....
Hard to follow and predict!
Thanks Hillbilly!
Damn, glad your family is ok. I grew up in Shawnee, have not been back in a few years.
That's great news to hear you're OK. People don't really have an appreciation for the devastation these things have. We see it on tv and then in 15 min they are on to other things. But the reality is until you've lived through or had someone close to you affected it's just hard to comprehend. Close to 40 years ago I lived through a wildfire in my neighborhood that burned many of my neighbor's homes. I was lucky to save my home but watching what the neighbors had to go through to rebuild their lives is heart breaking. Glad to hear you're good!
TM
Thanks, many thanks to all you guys.
A quick note....when the tornado hits the CVS PHARMACY where you get ur meds refilled, they can't transfer any sched 2 drug to another pharmacy. On. Friday, at 4:30 I find this out.
Note 2 the same tornado will also close all the drug dealers business too!🤣
Good thing is good friends that loaned me the walker, also had enough meds to share until I get some squared next week.
Did I mention the new knee hurts? Alot? Lol
Anyway, as said above, the pictures I took are just like all other tornadoes aftermath. This town was gutted literally.
I'm attaching a picture of our one set of friends with the children were trapped.
They are lucky they aren't dead.
Been through a few of these, but I'm always amazed at how things end up...
This is a picture of the tennis ball hail core that moved through with it.
Geezus...
I’ve lived every day of my 57 years here in the heart of tornado alley and I remember in my youth when forecasting was more “educated guessing” than tech driven real time observation and those days were even sketchier than what we deal with now! I remember my folks & family huddled around an old AM transistor radio tuned to the local station hoping for accurate weather info!
The wife & I had only gotten home from a trip to visit our Son on the east coast (job move!) the day before, so we got home just in time to spend Wednesday evening hoping like hell the weather didn’t go psycho and when it did, the rest of the evening ready to hide in the closest! Like you I was fortunate to NOT lose power or TV coverage and damn glad I was able to keep my brother up to speed (also via text messages!) while he hunkered in his tornado shelter with the dogs & cat, listening to the storm rage out his door and hoping his horses, donkey and goats sheltered in the barn were still gonna be there in the next moment!
This was the first storm we rode out with NO close storm shelter available! My motherinlaw that had one and lived just a few blocks away passed last summer and her home sold to a new family, so we no longer have that close shelter available!
After this past Wednesday’s calamity and a vivid reminder of how miserable storm season is without a shelter, the wife & I are discussing having one installed here at the house asap!
Tornado season in Oklahoma (well the entire midwest, Kansas Texas and several other states deal with the same crazy weather too!) is a real pain in the ass and its an awful reality to sit by helplessly while Mother Nature flies into a rage and snuffs people & property out with reckless abandon!
We just watched the local 6pm news and saw that there are STILL around 9000 without electricity restored with approx 1800 homes & buildings damaged or destroyed around the Shawnee area!? Thats a real bummer…
Here’s to hoping things continue to improve rapidly and those hard working power folks can get the rest restored quickly! These weather calamities are always hard to deal with but they also highlight the good that still exists in humanity and often shine a light on all the unsung heroes that work tirelessly and thanklessly to get things back to normal as fast as humanly possible!
Have a great weekend and I hope the knee gets to feeling better quickly as well! RP in Okc
Pit Row
Thank you friend. .
The wife and I have decided the same, time to get a bunker for storms.
We arent that far apart in age, good to hear the am radio story!
Some folks here have no idea what we are talking about.
am radio.
Beef and pork futures, crop futures, news, and..... country music...lol
And the occasional ufo after dark....what was that show? Coast to Coast maybe?
WLS Chicago after 9 when stations throttle back
King Biscuit Flour Hour....blues, rock.
Lol, good times, nothing else to listen to!
Be safe brother!
I still have that same old transistor radio that my folks had all through my youth!
My mother bought it around 1969 or 70 from the Sears store that was located at SW 44th & Western in Okc for the longest time! It is a Sears brand AM/FM radio that could run on 4 D-cell batteries when not plugged in.
Now that my folks are but a fond memory, I sometimes plug it in and listen to the Sunday morning gospel that my Mom would put on while she prepped a big Sunday meal, or listen to the local college football game the same way my dear ol’ Dad did all those years ago! There’s just something about the way an old transistor radio tuned to an AM station sounds that takes me back to a happy, simpler time in life! Now If only I could find / tune in the old Doctor Demento show or some other 70’s silliness life would be grand again! 🤪 👍❗️
Dr. DEMNTO!! LOL
I’m glad you’re okay. That’s scary stuff. As hard as it is to lose possessions and property, that’s obviously not the most important thing. Your life is. Can’t imagine that feeling.
Glad you're ok, so gnarly.
My wife and boys rode the one out in February that hit Shawnee in the storm shelter at Game Moto. Coming from the west coast we've never experienced anything like it. I had just flown home when they called to say they had to get in the shelter. I found a live news channel from OKC on Youtube, which had unbelievable tracking and updates plus guys out chasing the storm. Pretty intense.
Yes, extremely crazy if you have never. Experienced it!
Helpless...waiting..
