I just told you why lol because I don’t believe nutrient guidelines are adequate (RDI’s, label tolerance) and that a lot of nutrition is destroyed through various means. It’s not a conspiracy, sunlight, age, air, transit, shelf time all plays a role in nutrient degradation. I supplement in alot of essential amino acids, beet juice from my juicer, multi, organs, glutamine. There’s more but that’s some. I’m also training 6-7 days a week very hard. I’m more nutrient sensitive when I’m in an intense season versus maintaining or just busy.

I get what you’re saying, but I believe you are somewhat on the extreme end of a spectrum here.

I’d say the majority of Americans don’t even understand what their caloric intake should be, what type of macros best fuel their bodies, and what level of micronutrients they are receiving from their daily eating routines.

The first step shouldn’t be to cram supplements into our bodies and not address the dietary issues. People need to get away from fast food, sugar, bad fats, etc. and switch to diets made of whole, fresh foods, with the appropriate amount of calories and macros. Once that is understood and sustainable, then you’d selectively use certain supplements to address deficiencies in particular micronutrients. But we’re splitting hairs here…a balanced whole food diet is going to get you 99% of the way there without supplementation.

I drink a gallon a day no problem.

Can I ask what you take and where you get it please?

Can I just grab it at GNC or is it something I should order online?
Thanks very much, trying to better myself.

Creatine monohydrate is the compound you want. Most of the other “variants” are just marketing schemes to charge more for little in return. The cheapest way I’ve found to do it is just go through GNC and buy the large tub.
https://www.gnc.com/creatine-1/509680.html

Also something to consider…there’s quite a few studies that have been done that show 3 to 3.5grams per day is adequate for most applications. Taking the full 5gram serving is unnecessary.

I like to do 1.5 grams in the morning with breakfast and then 1.5 grams in the evening right before dinner to help keep the system loaded.

I’ve been taking Creatine for awhile and haven’t noticed any negative side effects. I’ve put on quite a bit of muscle mass and also leaner then ever, so I don’t fully believe the “water retention” claims. But I would also say that if you aren’t working out 4-5 times per week and eating a healthy, balanced diet.

Awesome man thank you, I really appreciate you taking the time to write that out for me

I feel like I have everything else in order, and all the other factors mentioned… I eat super clean… Work an extremely physical construction job, five days a week… workout six days a week ...Ride every Saturday… Juggle three kids.. poubd a gallon of water No problem.

i'm really enjoying it all and if there's something that I can be taking that doesn't make me feel like I'm on crack and is beneficial then I'm all in.

off to GNC

I agree with everything you said so either I spoke unclearly, you read unclearly, or a little of both lol. I'm with you though. Most lifestyles can be drastically improved by elimination before addition. With food, a little bad goes a long way.

If you're a seasoned gym user then creatine at this point is not going to be very helpful in there. Another nuance of it is that it makes your muscles retain water. So, you'll gain weight there and internally as well. I usually can lose 10-12 pounds when I stop creatine for the summer. Outside of that it really doesn't do much. Unless you have a targeted reason for it like an intense strength gaining program attempt, I wouldn't use it. If you do, one loose (non-packed) scoop any time of day is fine, micro dosing is not required. Creatine is a saturation supplement so once you have it in your system in an ample amount, you're fine. If you forget a day or something it's not a big deal.

Keep it practical.

I read lots say it retains water...lots say it doesn't.

So I'll try.

I either waste $44 or I'm happy with what it does for me.

In regards to creatine, pure creatine  monohydrate is all a person really needs. I’ve used it for years. Back in 99, I used  creatine ATP by GNC. It was a liquid that came in a vial. It was discontinued so, I switched to monohydrate. I’ve tried, ConKrete,  Creatine HCI and several others. I never noticed any difference except the price between monohydrate and the others.

Here’s what I use. If you’re working out, I wouldn’t worry about water weight. The benefits outweigh the cons.

Late 90,s I started taking msm & other joint

& ligament helpers. 3.5 months after a reconstructed knee& shoulder I went back to work on the hhg rig working 7 days a week 3.5 weeks straight.  Trucking it seems like I take more vitamins every yr. I hv a Walmart mesh laundry bag 1/2 full of vitamins. It’s crazy the 7 day a week push of 20 hr + days months straight. Your body gets extremely fatigued. After time your mind follows. Focus factor & stuff like it helps tweaking the brain. On the rd I live on cold flying j sandwiches & heat lamp double burgers, cans of tuna, little Debbie brownies. Every 6 weeks maybe I,ll get a burger & fries& build a omelet double cheese& sausage, ham from flying j Dennys . Not the healthiest diet but I,m still 172 ish & blood pressure is usually 116-118 ovr 62.   I do drink 1 1/2 gallons of water every day& never drink soda. Smoke 2 plus packs in the trk. Off for injuries I eat a lot healthier. Doing laundry I,ll eat a big bag of spinage as fast as I can. I time it always under 5 min.  And cut don’t take many vitamins so they work again when I,m on the rd.

Don’t go to GNC, $44 for creatine monohydrate is ridiculous. Pretty sure I just looked up what you’re getting, the 100 serving GNC Pro Performance Creatine Monohydrate, right?

$24 here for the 100 serving size: https://www.bulksupplements.com/products/creatine-monohydrate?variant=32133392236655

EDIT to add: The above is what I use and it does NOT come with a scoop. 3-5g/day is what you want and one rounded teaspoon is about 5g. I just leave a teaspoon in the bag.

Yeah absolutely do not buy anything from GNC, it’s like paying dealership prices but without supporting a dealership. Worst of both worlds

I buy from GNC because they have good customer support and a local store in my area that usually has what I need on hand.

With that being said, they do have higher prices compared to no-name brands, but they’re almost running 10-20% off deals and when they offer BOGO 50% off I stock up.

Thanks man!

A little late but I'll know for next time!

I struggled more with the gnc employee than the price of the product...

Two last questions:-

Can I just throw this in my coffee?
My routine is wake at 5.30...5.31 coffee!...in gym by 6.30

Flavorless so figured that works?

2.One scoop per day is fine right?

I've read one in morning and one at night.

Just trying to learn..

Appreciate it fellas!

Coffee will work fine. There is a fair amount of research that your body absorbs it better when consumed with carbs. When I was using it, I would always ingest it with like 4-5 oz apple juice. I don't think this is necessary though.

Number of scoops doesn't matter, what matters is the mass you are intaking. 3-5 grams daily is the amount you want to be taking. Some people load on creatine by taking as much as 20 grams a day for a week then take a maintenance dose of 5 grams daily after that. I never did this. If you take 5 grams a day, every day, for 4 weeks, you'll hit the same level of saturation in your body. I personally just did 5 grams because it was easier.

Timing doesn't really matter since it doesn't have a component where levels peak shortly after supplementing like with BCAAs. It was always much easier for me to have it in the morning.

I wouldn't do it with coffee. There is some scientific research out there showing that caffeine hinders the body's ability to absorb creatine as efficiently. If you are going to use it in the morning, I would take it with 8+ ounces of water and a little bit of food a couple hours before you're first cup of coffee. If you have coffee right away in the morning, then I would wait to take the creatine until with your lunch or even later in the evening with dinner. If you're taking a highly caffeinated pre-workouts as part of your gym routine, the same would apply so the rule of thumb is just try to take it 4-5 hours after any moderate caffeine ingestion.

I prefer flavorless and just mix it directly in with my water. I've tried some flavored variants in the past, and for some reason they always have a weird acidic taste and aren't all that pleasant.
