Funny this came up, I used to get harassed when id work out of state and call it pop since I'm from PA... The other one was calling shopping carts "buggies"..... some people wouldn't even know what i was talking about when id ask where a buggy was to bring my tools in for work purposes (traveling electrician)

Rarely ever hear pop or soda.

I know it'll go against the grain with me being in Texas and all, but i've never heard someone ask for a coke, and then say Dr pepper. It has always been you order the drink by the brand name, or if you're at someone elses house they will say "can I get you a drink"

I think the coke for everything is from older generations or the story has been exaggerated.

I agree. I've always heard individual drinks called by their individual names, or referred to generally as drinks or soft drinks.

My in-laws from Jersey refer to them as sodas. As in, please grab me a soda out of the fridge. What kind? Oh, a Pepsi please dear. Ok, why didn't you just ask for a Pepsi?

WTF would you call a drink Coke and expect anything but a coke . Which for the record is subpar to pepsi.

Coke is just what you say. Honestly, I prefer coke especially a Mexican coke and some peanuts poured into it for lunch. However we sell Pepsi at my restaurant because I don’t like the direction the coke company has been headed down. Still ask people if they want a coke…habits

My parents are yinzers, my mom would always say buggy.

Here in ohio people, at least ones near my age, call any backpack a bookbag, drives me crazy.

Being from Ohio I call it pop. Texans tell me it’s called soda. I remind them that the north won the war so we had a meeting and it’s called pop and if they tried a little harder then it would be soda.

Also it’s a backpack.

Growing up in California we would say hey, want a soda? Using soda implied you had more then one type to offer. I heard pop as a kid from my grandparents. Both were from Pennsylvania though.

Here in the PNW people say pop. Coke is Coke. Sprite is Sprite. Very rarely will I hear soda here.
If I hear soda, I know that person is from another state.
If my wife asked if I wanted a Coke, I had to specify, Coke, Mountain Dew, whatever. She’s a Burqueña for sure.

Southern thing….some call it a working man’s lunch. Truth be told not many do it anymore. I grew up having my grandfather do it to my coke every now and then and it just stuck

Is it PresCOT, or PresKIT?

I say “PresCOT”, with emphasis, and then just repeat myself whenever possible.

If they wanted their damn town pronounced “PresKIT”, they should have spelled it that way.

Ever been to Utah? Hurricane is “Hurikun”. Enoch is “Enik”.

I lived in Virginia and Norfolk is pronounced “NawFuk”.

Good stuff right there.   ^

Unfortunate for me though,  I quit using any sugar drinks and stuff like that, although I love that crap. Sad

On the rare occasion, some of that with a good spiced rum & is necessary for medicinal purposes. Laughing
