That was the gnarliest crash he's had in awhile.  Could have been career ending for sure.  He got very luck with the tough block saving him.  I'm sure it scared him, but not sure he would have signed up for Outdoors after that if he decided he wants to wind it down into retirement.

We’ve seen more careers end from tip overs in corners than crashes like that. All major contenders have had big off track crashes like that (Webb last year, Kenny on RCH in 16, RC boat, ETC) and were mostly fine.

Tomac has had a bad few races yet is still only 3 points out. Still most wins. And plenty of racing to go.

Which "tip overs in corners" have ended so many careers that you speak of?

Recently? Jessy nelson, and if I remember, Brian Moreau.

There’s more. But again, it’s usually not the big ones

23 YZ450 is much more front-end biased, trickier to get in the window and can lead to some unpredictable moments - in comparison to the old chassis.

Neither of those were tip overs in corners.  Jesse’s was a fluke with hitting the track marker but still not a tip over in a corner.

Villopoto blew his knee out with a tip over in a corner but it was not career ending.

Jessy’s crash was literally in a corner man. You are talking almost career ending crash but he finished the race sooooo

I would be willing to bet more seasons were missed due to corner crashes than big ones.

Tomac finished that race after that yet last year almost ruined his whole season without even crashing. Just dabbing his leg

I am not a Tomac fan at all… but threads like these seem ridiculous to me. The dude has won what? 5 rounds so far? Now he’s fastest in qualifying… and I’m guessing is going to run away with it again tonight. Crazy to talk like this about a guy that’s won 50% of the races this season. I guess it speaks to the performance standard everyone has for him.

Oh Daniel Blair said it? Then chisel it in stone!

I like Blair as much as the next guy but I was watching RDL when he said that too. Just because a media member said it doesn’t make it any more true. Listen to the play by play of any of these races- they continually try to create drama. I read posts on here crushing RC for doing it all the time.

Vital: we need to remove tuff blocks from jumps it’s causing too many crashes

also Vital: thank god that tuff block was there or Tomac could have had a career ending injury.

Though is the tuff blocks weren’t there he might have rode that out. Who knows.

I think his competition just closed the gap dialing in their bikes. His set up seemed sketchy in the long rhythms as JS7 discussed on his podcast.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Eli strained his neck in that A2 crash. I Can’t imagine racing at his level with an injured neck.

He has won multiple times after the A2 crash. You don't crash and then get sore weeks later. A2 has nothing to do with how he's riding right now

He's back to shutting off going into the 1st corner again.

I know he's had several wins since San Diego, but IMO that was his best race since then. He unleashed his speed and ran away from Webb, Roczen, Anderson etc and sat a few secs behind Sexton knowing either a) he would crash or b) he would pull away and win, but the most important goal was to beat Webb.

Tomac superfan here, but not seeing this discussed enough. The beginning of the season Tomac was completely untouchable and nobody, not chase, not Webb, had anything for him. Even with a fall he still came back to catch right up and win the race with a gap. Fast forward to A2, he crashes, and just has not looked like the same guy at all. Barely hanging with them, “not willing to take any risk” and rolling around in 8th, looking super stiff etc etc. I know he had neck strain as he said, but even in Detroit he pushed for a little bit, and then just seemingly dropped anchor again.
I’m thinking he really might be rattled from A2, but I am really hoping he turns this around soon and starts hammering again. Even with the 5 wins he just doesn’t look the same at all since that crash.
with that being said, I’m still very confident he takes this title home.

He looks devastated! I hope he can recover.🤣

Super pumped. He looked completely back to form tonight, and looked right back to his A1 form.
I must’ve jumped the gun a bit. As I said, I’m an eli super fan. Super happy with tonight! LFG

I was there in Seattle and was holding it wide open especially in the whoops. The kind of speed that leaves you with your mouth open.

It looked crazy on tv, can’t even imagine seeing it in person. There was a time during the main that he made a left in a 90, rolled the first jump, then hit the next table for the rythym.

The sound his bike made at wide open when he dumped the clutch rivaled a 2 stroke
