Brand new 250f is oddly slow?

I will preface this by saying I'm not very savvy in the bike maintenance department so I really have no idea what's going on. I've been riding 250fs for about 8 years and the one I just bought seems off.. *YES I did put it on the aggressive map*

I've just recently bought a 2023 yz250f, broke it in for a few hours on some trails, changed oil and filters, and took it to the track. The very first thing I noticed, is the bike feels oddly slow? I noticed this after watching a guy with the exact same bike as me grease this uphill triple with 0 issue, no seat bounce, didn't hit the turn that quick, just easily made it over. Now, when I go for it, I'm hitting the corner as fast as I possibly can, shifting to 4th and I'm literally riding the throttle stop screaming all the way up the face and give it a huge huck off the lip and I'm not even clearing the jump. I only weigh 175, and the bike is literally brand new? I also noticed the bike would backfire when under deceleration when going down the hills, don't really know if that's relevant or not. I'm your average local B rider, not insanely fast but I can tell the difference between a fault in the bike and me just sucking.

Anybody ever experience something similar and what was the fix? I'm completely confident it's the bike, I even went out of my way to take my 2021 kx250 to the same track and I was hitting the triple easily.

OP, you’re not a b rider at the local level or any level. These are not B level questions, b level thought processing, or b level explanations. I was suspicious after reading the original post, you confirmed my suspicions with each reply you made. Let me help you out.

Hey guys I’m new to riding and just financed my first bike. Im not sure if it’s me or the bike but I’m having issues jumping small tabletops that my friend who’s been riding 2 months longer than me can clear with no problem. The bike is making this real fast loud popping  sound and seems really slow when my throttle is so far wide open that my elbow is pointing forward. I can’t seem to get enough speed in 3rd gear to get the back wheel off the ground over singles. I think it’s the bike but just hoping for any help or suggestions. Thanks for the help.

Hey OP, learn how to ride your motorcycle. It takes time so be patient and you will be shifting gears and getting sweet air in no time.

OP has returned specifically to reply to this

Hello sir, I installed new clutch plates on Saturday and the bike works like a charm. I never posted here because I forgot to bring the gopro and didn't want to disappoint, but I am riding today again so I'll bring it specifically for you so you can sleep better at night. When in the world did skill level on the bike translate to skill level working on the bike?

It doesn’t, I know plenty of extremely fast riders that probably can’t change the oil in their bike. It has nothing to do with your ability to prevent, diagnose or resolve mechanical issues you may encounter. My conclusion was solely based on your lack of general understanding. In your first post you explained you have been riding 250’s for 8 years, yet you only noticed the bike was down on power after witnessing someone riding an identical bike faster. Then you had to leave the track and return with a different bike to confirm your new bike was down on power. Any B rider, probably any decent C rider and probably the leaders of the beginner class would notice the bike being down on power immediately, possibly even when just warming the bike up on the stand. At no time would any b rider need to question their riding ability because the bike is down on power. Now, I could continue dissecting  similar statements, opinions, questions and comments you continued to spew all over this thread as proof but surly you get the picture. Sorry bud, it’s just the truth.

Oh, and as for the GoPro, no need to get a video from today, I’m sure you have plenty of videos riding your KX. Why not just post one of those now, or yesterday, or shit, how about when all the other members asked for a video in this thread?

I didn’t post any videos of myself riding because like I already said I have none. I noticed the bike felt kinda slow off rip but the triple situation is what CONFIRMED to me that yes the bike is slow. Stop being so weird and patiently wait for your gopro video

You’re right, sorry for being weird. Have fun and be safe. Also, leave the GoPro at the house, regardless of your ability it’s not worth getting in a situation where you may be pushing a little to make a video to post on vital!

Also, I wanted to add a little advice. Anytime you think the bike seems down on power, pull off. Don’t go trying to jump shit in 4th gear hammered. It’s not uncommon for a 4t to be down on power just before it lets go due to catastrophic failure.

The replies on this thread have been absolutely retarded. Dude was asking if it was normal that the new yamaha felt like a turd and the responses "you're not fast bro"

I've had a similar problem with an RM 125 where the bike would Rev up then sputter. The problem was the main bearings were shot.

Did you have to go get a second bike and jump a double to confirm?

Were they burnt? Just curious, wondering if it was a misadjusted clutch that caused it to burn up, or if maybe you had used an oil with moly in it that caused the plates to slip.

I can’t believe ( unless I missed it), that NOBODY touched upon the question that could solve this issue…

what color powerband are you using?

On a serious note. Some have said that it’s just a matter of speed, and nothing else.

Actually, if you hit the lip of the same jump at the same speed, it also matters if you are accelerating, or decelerating when you leave the jump.

That would make the power issue come into play on a jump on a long uphill like the one pictured.

In the video of Stew, he was off the throttle on some of the jumps, and more than likely decelerating, because he had more speed than needed, and would have jumped into the next county had he not backed off.

Except in supercross, rarely are any two jumps the same.

You seem to have a habit of calling out posts as “retarded” or “idiotic” you disagree with or don’t like. Yet, you never seem to offer any insight or relevant information. Similar to your absolute irrelevant comparison of your RM 125 issue that in no way sounds remotely close to the issue with the YZf. Should all replies be  submitted to you for approval prior to posting?

He said what he said because your response was pretty stupid. Literally all I asked was help with a bike issue and for whatever reason my skill level and experience riding a dirt bike was challenged by like 5 people. He’s not wrong, this topic is really really stupid

Thought you were going riding? You’re right, questioning your riding ability should never have been questioned or even brought up. However, it was brought up, by you. Then you proceeded to not only bring it up but also defend it by arguing over a jump that you have never hit. I was simply providing my opinion based on the direction in the thread. Let’s be careful what we claim as stupid, especially if we are participating in the stupidity. Get off vital and go hammer out some laps. The best way to shut up the idiots on vital is silence. Wink wink

I am at the track right now, I got your video already, but I’m not leaving for awhile. I brought up my skill level in the OP specifically to avoid people like you from claiming I’m just slow, I said it one time in passing, I’m not bragging about it, but I’m not gonna let some vet tell me I’m slow because I can’t tell what’s wrong with my bike. Plus, tell me how believable it is that some random guy on vital claims to have it a 150 foot triple on a bone stock 250f? I like many of my friends simply don’t believe that.

Accidentally left out -in 3rd gear-. Obviously it’s possible to hit a huge jump on a stock 250f

Wink wink
