If you were me would you send your kids helmet in to be inspected after being sent to hospital for possible brain injury after a crash or to be on the safe side just go ahead and buy a new helmet. All his test results were negative thankfully.
To be honest, the helmet did his job. I had a scary crash a few years back at the 6D ride day in Lommel, helmet was quite cracked and i handed it over to Bob. He was glad i had no major injuries and gladly provided me a new helmet for free, which was amazing. They reviewed the helmet for research and improvement. Now they have a customer for life
send it to 6D......they will check it out and rebuild it if it can be done. Great service that they offer and that's one of the reasons that the helmet is so expensive.
I would send it in. I had a bad get off last year where I hit the right side of my head pretty hard. I sent mine to 6D, they got to back me and said the shell x-ray showed no structural damage but that EPS liner was crushed. They did a rebuild with a new EPS liner and sent it back to me in like new condition other than the outer shell wear and tear that it already had. Only thing was I had to buy another 6D to wear while the crashed one was being re-built, lol.
Buy new and park the old one on the shelf.
Piece of mind as a parent is paramount.

I’d trust 6D. In fact I do…….with my life. I’m lucky enough to race with both Bob and Robert, and I can leave my helmet with them and they’ll bring it to the track next week all freshened up. Support those who support the sport. - Buy 6D
I switched to 6D helmets in 2013, only wore Shoei and Arai before that.
I've taken several hard smacks since then and this may be placebo, but I swear I could feel the outer shell rotating away from the inner shell and softening the impact as I was tumbling - I swear I've felt the elastomers doing their job. Again, no scientific evidence to back any of this up, but I have came away from every extremely surprised with how sore the rest of my body is, but my head took no impact. I have over 10 concussions from 1993-2013 wearing other premium helmets, no concussions from 2013-2023 and that's with a couple very big crashes that left me with broken bones.
Despite the ability to rebuild 6D helmets, I have happily retired each one after a big crash and bought a new one. I pay full price for 6D when I could get other "premium" helmets at a big discount or free.
I'd recommend sending it back to 6D in general - and part of this recommendation is to enable them to get their hands on it to analyze, which makes for better future helmets!
6D helmet owner here as well. For life.
I sent my 6D in for an inspect and rebuilt after I had a real bell ringer. $177 later (which included a new visor), I was good to go.
If 6D determines it's repairable and repairs it, it will be safe as a new one.
Get a new one if it's for your child. No reason to have "what if's" in the back of your mind when your kid is out there sending it.
If the old helmet is rebuildable then send it back to 6D for repair and keep it as a backup.
Never took chances with my kids. BTW, I have a 6D, and appreciate all they do.
Helmets are cheap compared to having a kid with a TBI. I speak from first-hand experience and still feel some guilt for introducing him to this sport.
New helmet! You’ll sleep better.
