Where you get them from absolutely matters. Xpr is going to have different maps then twisted and same for Tokyo. There are ‘default’ maps from vortex as I understand it but getting the custom mapping for your riding style, elevation and desired characteristics is the biggest benefit of getting the vortex.
i have heard of some crazy impressive numbers coming from XPRs maps on the 23 … like holy shit that’s stupid over 60hp numbers on a 350 without motor work.
I would hope so since twisted picked up 6 on the last generation and the 23 comes stock with 57. That’s getting into stock 450 numbers, but with less torque.
I love my Twisted mapped Vortex on my 23 350. More than enough power everywhere.

I just purchased a 2022 350sx and love it
Yes, the Vortex comes from Vortex with their maps loaded but the dealers like Twisted and XPR will load their custom maps for an additional charge. When I bought mine from XPR a few months ago, he told me he is going to begin only selling them only with his maps because the rate of people sending them back for his maps after not being happy with the standard Vortex maps was fairly high.
Now as far as how "custom" these maps are, I think people oversell that point a little. At least based on my experience with XPR. He has his 10 maps that he developed and that's what you get. He doesn't ask or care about your ability, style, terrain, mods etc. And his maps are listed as "pump and/or T4" so he does not differentiate for T4 fuel. I even tried to kind of steer the conversation to some customization and he basically kept it at "it is what it is" more or less. Don't get me wrong, I am totally happy with his maps and I am not even fully done trying all of them and I have not played with the fuel trims yet. But I think people believe they are going to get special maps made just for them. Maybe I'm not special enough or maybe Twisted will get more personal, I dont know.
There is an entire sheet that you fill out for Twisted before he loads your maps. They (both XPR and Twisted) spend a lot time on the dyno to deliver a great product and I’m super pleased with what Twisted did for me.
FGR01, you couldn't have said it better! Agrre100%, and Ive had more than a few Vortex ignitions.
Have any of you guys had issues with your vortex ecu causing your bike to randomly shut off like you’re holding the kill switch? After this happening a few times i went back to a stock ecu and never had the issue come back.
I’m sure if you tried the 10 maps, then wanted to change one or mix one, XPR would do that.
Twisted has done customs maps for me at Mammoth and Vet Champs at GH.
You have to understand they have done hours and hours of dyno testing and track testing. 1 of the 10 maps they made is most likely going to be amazing for you.
I have a Twisted Vortex and know which map I use when it’s deep and which map when it gets firm/slick.
XPR did awesome work on a Honda 250 I had. Both companies are ahead of there time on tuning bikes via ECU.
Can you describe the differences power wise over stock? I have a 23 and curious to know the differences. Thanks
It opens everything up, and makes the power more useable. In the older days how you would feel a major power improvement from adding an exhaust to a 2 stroke. In livens up the power band. They are also able to reduce engine braking and can put the meat of the power where you want it with the different maps. Hope this helps.
If Yamaha had a YZ350F, I'd be on the way to the dealership right now. Have ridden the KTM and not much of a fan. Have ridden the Husky, and surprisingly I liked it, which is weird since its so close to a KTM. Can't really explain it. They definitely aren't the same bike. Suppose I could get the Husky 350 and throw on some KYB forks.
The KTM 6500 kit works really well as opposed to a KYB kit. I have not ridden a KTM with the KYB but coming off a Yamaha myself I’m happy with the 6500 kit.
Be careful what you say in this thread since you didnt go the conevalve route. You will be branded a fool for going with inserts instead of conevalves... its a few pages back. Considered yourself warned🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
FGR01 and adams...thanks for your insight! I wasn't clear on the situation as the XPR site just seemed want the type of gas being used. The Tokyo Mods site sold the ECU but has a totally different charge for remapping. Based on feedback, I'd like to get something from Twisted but as mentioned , I'm not even seeing them having a Vortex for a Husky 350 being shown. Since it's the weekend, I sent Twisted an email yesterday to see when they'll have one in stock.
Twisted is really responsive. I just looked at part numbers on the Vortex website and the part numbers are the same. Hope it works well for you. If you don’t get a response right away just trying calling them during their business hours.
So with the vortex, does it take away the damn touchy throttle in the pits? I swear I don’t notice it on the track but running 1st or 2nd going to staging and back is awful with these bikes. Like it’s on or off. I’ll buy a vortex just to ditch that lol.
Pit Row
Yes, I run a vortex from Twisted and the “best power map -1 or -2 degree” reduce the initial touchiness. Much easier for me to have throttle control. Roll corners very easy!
To be clear, a standard Vortex with maps installed from Vortex is not the same as the maps developed from Twisted or XPR. The real money is in the maps these guys have developed.
I love my 2022 KTM 350 XCW, absolutely awesome trail bike
Awesome, so looking at xpr it looks like you have to buy the vortex but also their map package for an additional $300 correct?
Maybe I read that wrong?
Yes that is correct. When you buy the vortex it comes with maps installed. If you want Twisted or XPR to remap it they charge you additional for their proprietary maps that they have developed. They’re maps and head and shoulders better than what comes pre programmed. Definitely worth the extra money to have them put their maps in.
I've got the 2021 Kaliub Russell with a vortex ecu. Twisted Dev website says they can only tune up to a 2020.
I figure if I've got a vortex on my bike then they should be able to tune it.....correct? Anyone know if their website might be out of date or something? I may call them up tomorrow but figured I'd ask here.
Were you at Murphy’s today?
They can absolutely install maps on any Vortex. The question is if they have ran your model on the dyno to get the best mapping for it. Call them tomorrow and ask. They will tell you straight away.
They may be referring to the stock ECU…..
That would make more sense. I think in 21' they added the bar pad wifi module or whatever which probably added complexity to the stock ECU.
Great info, thank you!
I'll let you try my FC350 with 6500's and Vortex sometime at Motoland, but I seem to remember you're quite a bit bigger than me (180lb) so it might be a pile of mush for you.... lol I'd say the 6500's can be made to feel quite like KYB's but with a little more progression and bottoming resistance because they have huge bottoming cups.
