Family is entertaining the idea of moving south from the great white north. One sibling has opted to buy a chiropractic business in Caldwell ID.
idaho is still on our menu as it seems with everyone else. But currently interested in some larger properties near Clearlake CA.
Have spent some time in napa valley, but not much further north. Any info good or bad is appreciated.
The Florida Black bass grows to be the largest bass and have been introduced into lakes around the world. Most bass in the world that are large are most likely from Florida. Clear lake has some of the biggest Florida bass. 😁
Can’t speak to Clear Lake specifically but I’ve spent a fair amount of time just SW of there and it’s beautiful country. The question you really have to ask is do you want to move to CA vs Idaho. Political climate, regulations, taxes, cost of living are all things to think about. I love NorCal but not sure I would move back with the current state of California.
Clear Lake is a $hit hole. Lots of nice areas not too far from there, but the townsites of Clear Lake , Lakeport, Lower Lake, Upper Lake and Clear Lake Oaks are gross. The lake is disgusting too. Some decent riding not too far away.
Agreed. I've been there fishing with my buddy a few times and ya, you couldn't pay me to live there. Stayed at the Casino hotel, which is the nicest hotel in the town, and I thought for sure my buddie's bass boat was going to be gone in the AM. That wouldn't have bothered me though because then I wouldn't have to go fishing. But this a pretty realistic pic of most the locals. Seriously it is.

Clear lake area is for sure a white trash meth head capital. The surrounding area is mostly oak woodland that is pretty. You aren't overly far from Napa/ Santa Rosa area. But not really close either. The small towns around the lake are pretty run down with not much going on.
Not sure what one would do for work in the area. But if you wanted a large ranch type properly to just chill on by yourself it would be cool.
LOL Red! That picture sums it up very well!
This is some feedback I was looking for, appreciated
I lived in Lake County for several years. While there is certainly a low income aspect to that county, it does have it's advantages. Lower land cost, less rules and regulations, etc. As mentioned, there's not much from a business aspect in that county, but the beauty of the land is fantastic, and most of the folks that live there are really good people. I lived in Cobb Mountain (loved it, btw), and I think there were two main drawbacks.
1) It's a bit of a drive (apx 1 hr) to get to a large civilization hub. Generally the Santa Rosa area since northern Napa County is still not very urban.
2) Fires are a very real, very scary thing. My back yard in Cobb was a state forest. Quiet, serene, beautiful, and it all burnt to the ground a couple years after we moved. If you have land, clear the trees and brush away from the house.
In many ways that part of CA is more like ID. Low population, nice people, rural, beautiful, limited business opportunities. However, you're still subject to the People's Republic of California bullcrap. There are very real reasons so many level-headed people are fleeing this state.
As someone that spends A LOT of time exploring, off-roading/ADVing and Raptor Rallying in that part of the state…and as a dude that’s spent PLENTY of time in the area “since I was a kid” (the 60s) and who’s family has a bit of property up there…
Matt’s explanation is spot on.
So much AMAZING outdoor living and exploring to do up there with PLENTY of access.
