Found this gem today while changing the oil in my 2017 KTM 250sxf. 2 of the 3 pieces came out on the drain plug, last piece I was able to pull out with a magnet from the metal mesh filter path. The only thing I can think of it coming from was the idler pump washers, idler pump gear has some in and out slop, will be taking the clutch hub off this week to confirm. Any help to determine the source would be appreciated if this has happened to you or a buddy. Thanks, Brett

Welp, not the idler pump washer. No idea where this could have come from after reviewing all of the schematics online… Maybe the main shaft thrust washer or stop disc??? Looks like I’m gonna run it until she gives up the ghost.
It came from somewhere. It’s your bike, but I’d tear it down as far as necessary to find where that was, assess any other damage, and repair as needed. Otherwise, you’ll still be tearing it down and likely replacing a lot more parts ($$$) than you would have. Worse, you may be in plaster if it gives up at a bad time…
Bro that’s why you don’t change your oil. You’d have never seen that thing. I’ve got a vet owned never raced 2012 KTM 350 for $8800. Only has 234hrs, mint condition.

Sandman, that's what I'm thinking as well. Bike is heading into the shop shortly to splitting cases to confirm, unfortunately splitting cases is beyond my limits of ability. Thank you for your input, I appreciate it.

Hey Burt. Don’t sell yourself short. If you can do a top end you can split the cases. It’s not that hard with a service manual and after watching how-to videos. It IS a lot of work and tedious. If you don’t have the time and have the money take it to the shop. But you can save a lot of money and ensure it’s done right by doing it yourself. Good luck. Sorry about your troubles.
