My first SX race was the Coca Cola Supercross Finals at Anaheim Stadium in 1977, I hope that helps you......

So you started early but that tells me nothing regarding how many stadiums you've been to.  Is this your way of telling us you've never been to a SX outside of CA?

This hair splitting aside, the point is this is a good thread for people who want to attend a SX outside their home state.   I have enjoyed the Dallas Stadium and Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis the times I have been there.  Rice Eccles Stadium having the final is the only reason I am going again but if the title is wrapped ahead of time, which is doubtful, I will stay home and watch race on Peacock.

Leave some stuff in your car in the name of equity.

I thought it was clearly "implied" that I have attended many SX races at many different venues.

8 venues off the top of my head, 10 if you count the McGrath event at Home Depot Center and Red Bull Straight Rhythm.

I hope it makes it more lucent for you. Cool

Well over 25 venues since 1979…for example…3 different venues in San Diego…3 different venues in Los Angeles…3 different venues in Atlanta…

The best: Arlington/AT&T …the services inside the stadium…the accommodating staff…etc.

The worst: Atlanta (the downtown stadiums w/ shit staff & where bikes go to get stolen)

Not sure how anyone could interpret "my first SX" post translates to attending many SX races at many different venues   I went to my first dog show in 1973 but haven't been to one since.

Thank you for your word of the day as I wasn't familiar with lucent.   Keep it pinned and have a good weekend Jim.

lucently

Lucent things shine or glow with light. On a clear night, the full moon is lucent in the sky.

The literary word lucent essentially means "luminous" or "radiant," glowing with a soft, bright light. You're most likely to encounter it in a poem or novel, describing the stars or white flowers in the dusk, or someone' s beautiful pale face, but it sometimes has a "clear or lucid" meaning as well. It comes from the Latin lucentem, from lucere, "to shine."

Been to all of them to many times and I’d say Oakland and Detroit. Everything about Oakland including the stadium is a complete shit hole. Detroits stadium actually isn’t bad but the area obviously sucks.

Detroit's downtown area is actually surpringly clean because Dan Gilbert hires private security and there is a high police presence in that small radius because of the tourism and sporting events and restaurants. A few miles away in the neighborhoods are the "detroit" you think of since the 60s... i.e shithole.

However that 1 square mile or whatever it is of downtown Detroit is most likely nicer than what Seattle, Oakland, and other cities have become and will become.

Yup. Super confused of the Detroit comments. Most likely guys that have never walked around.

The area surrounding the stadium is beautiful. High class restaurants, music clubs, greektown, pubs, etc. Tons of money in the few mile radius of the stadium. You are hardly in walking distance from any dangerous or run down area.

Like you said, the immediate area is cleaner and nicer than most major cities on the schedule.

FWIW, things haven't been exactly peachy in Greektown the past few years.  This article is from 2019, but the situation hasn't really improved: https://www.metrotimes.com/news/shootings-stabbings-and-brawls-greektown-becomes-a-hotbed-of-crime-in-downtown-detroit-21599748

But overall, the perception of Detroit as unsafe and dirty is outdated.  A lot has happened here in the last 5-10 years, most of it for the better because of the reasons Kkawi stated.

I spend a lot of time at greektown at the casino and it's fine. Sure, there's been the normal downtown core crimes that all cities are riddled by, but it's nothing to really worry about at times of major sporting events when police present is ramped up.

You can pull worse headlines from incredibly safe cities such as Toronto.

The areas to avoid in Detroit are not within a reasonable distance from downtown. Unlike some areas, where you are smack dab in the center.

I respectfully disagree.  I lived (recently moved) and still work in the city.

A lot has changed for the better in recent years, but the crime in Greektown has gotten pretty bad.  I'm not speaking of "normal downtown core crimes" such as larceny and the like, but violent crime.  Fortunately, a lot of other areas have gotten significantly better.

You are right in that there are very few "bad" areas within walking distance of the core downtown area (including Ford Field).

Maybe larceny was the major crime back in the day but crime has escalated. I would say shootings are incredibly common in most major downtown cores these days

Toronto, an incredibly safe city, has 1-2 shootings in the downtown core per week.

Once again this question is phrased for attending SX events. Greektown is great during major events. And outside of major events, is pretty in line with normal downtown city violence.

From Merriam-Webster: "lucent"

Synonyms: clear, crystal clear, transparent

Cool thread. So, if I’m understanding correctly, this is what I should in general do:

Buy a beater vehicle to drive and park outside the stadium.

Leave something of value in beater vehicle for equity.

Bring throwaway grill to make chow before the race.

Make sure you can access the pits.

Let me know if I’ve missed anything.

Thank you.

Seeing how it is Arlington tonight, I am going off on AT&T Stadium. I feel sorry for anyone above mid-level. You are packed in tighter up there than a Southwest full flight, can't see shit, so it is so easy to stare at that ridiculously huge monitor which detracts your attention anyway, might as well be at home watching it on your tv. Then the parking fees, are so outrageous.. once you get in you are walking your ass between the pits and your seat. Concessions will run you at least $50/person. And the worst is leaving the place, you are jammed up everywhere. Just everything about Jerry World can kiss my ass. The old stadium was a relic, but it was a much better experience for Supercross.
