I have always wondered about this picture of James Bubba Stewart testing a CR125R. I never knew about it back in the days but ever since I have seen the picture I have wanted to build a JS259 replica CR125R dreaming about having both JS259 & RC4 on the same team.

James doesn't look to happy and after owning a few early 2000s CR125s I am sure the Honda was probably not close to the power he had from his factory KX125 but maybe it was just a stomach bug.

The proof he rode it but these are the only 2 pictures I have seen and have never heard the back story but it does make one think 🤔..

Probably would have only lasted a year or two but it would have been the ultimate 125cc/250cc team as I consider JS259 to be the 125cc GOAT and RC4 the Big Bike GOAT 🐐.

So here we go this build will have lots of cool custom parts. I won't be throwing out all of the goodies but here is a good starter. A very special rider deserves a very special bike. This won't be an HRC factory build or a factory Replica. This bike is more of a tribute to my favorite rider on my favorite brand Honda on my favorite fun bike the 02+ CR125R.

We even have an RC valve 04 CR125R the only year CR125R with the Electronic PV.. So let's do a little bit of customization because no matter what the RC stands for it is not going on my Bubba tribute. Plus we all know with JS on board that valve would be pinned WFO 99% of the time in ATTACK mode.

Here she is the JS259 Dream Team 2004 CR125R as I traded for it last year. This is before I washed her she isnt a bad looker so I took out the simple green and my brushs and got to work.
This is her after being washed and ready to be torn down. There won't be much left of the original 04 CR125R when I am done but that's what makes building bikes fun.
This is the JS259 tribute I built with my 14 year old son a couple of years ago. This 04 CR125R will leave this build in the dust lots of cool upgrades and I am a 2 stroke guy at heart.
Here we have Big Brother my unrestored 03 CR250R only non original part is the airfilter. She will not be touched or see the dirt guess I could stick a #4 on her once the JS259 CR125R is done for a dream team picture. Now just need me a CR500r to go with my bikes miss my 92 CR500R.
My boys 14 250SX this was a McGrath Hotwheels KTM build we did traded the CRF250R JS259 for this one it was stock and went at it. This bike I traded for the 04 CR125R I get bored easily and spend / lose money on bikes but hey its all about fun..
This is my last bike I sold back in 2005 its an 03 200SX. Unfortunately I am disabled havent ridden since 2005 and would give both nuts and my pecker to be able to ride but I can still do builds like back in the days.
I salute you're passion for bikes bud no doubt.
Sorry you can't ride anymore so build em with all you got.
The JS saga to Honda back in the day was something special that almost actually happened.

Paging profeshenal125 for all the 2004 cr125 knowledge....
My living room has been taken over for this build. Can't remember all of the parts I bought need to unbox at some point.
Congratulations on owning the best handling bike ever built. Looks like you bought a clean 1. I owned 3 my 1st one I bought new in 06. I hv 2 now . 1st 04 I added pc pipe with reg pc silencer. It added a longer mid into top pull. Big diff in silencers I put the stock 1 back on with the pc pipe noticeable diff. A 06 has a tiny diff. V force was next it ran good but you don’t feel a diff in torque. IKat was next big improvement gets the bike ripping off corners hyper chattering the rear wheel. Stiffer springs next, played with sag ran upto 110 still turns great. JM Racing in your state was next a lot of material taken off the bottom- decking , actually not alot of porting but down correctly & carb mod a diff taper. I was shocked I never had a engine improved this much. When it hits it has a gnarly strong & long mid pull into the ovr rev. Stronger than a 98 Bill,s pipes ported , carb bore 98 rm125 or Jeff Wiloh,s Noleen 97 national bike.
05-07 air boot will increase throttle response add a little stronger & longer mid breaths better on top end ovr rev. Next twin air alum filter cage more of the same improvement. Both made the bike run better- cleaner. Stock boot is deader coming on the pipe but it does hv a much harder hit. Hrc method 12 mm pv adjustment it’s on yt. I always played with adjustments usually setting it loose to loose bottom to force me to ride with no bottom just mid to top. Hrc method is the best. Pic bike 3 , 5 hrs maybe it came with fmf pipe with reg fmf silencer. It hits harder quicker & stronger mid with great ovr rev it stilled pulled at 12,500. Stock pipe with a pv shorty is really good tho. JM racing did a Amazing job on this cylinder I hv Tara Gieger National LL championship spec with a little bit more torque.remember they where on 250f that yr. & Tara was a rookie that yr. I showed a pal that’s modding bikes that saw a TD Ktm 125 for a top am. Crazy if you see it you would swear Team Honda did the work. With stock cylinder & fmf , I added a rad valve , hrc pv adjustment, iKat. It hit really quick& hard then sounded gnarly it pulled like a 132. A pv shorty change with that it ran a lot better. I drilled 3 holes on each side of air box bottom to top improvement. The bike still seem to be starving for air. 1 thing that’s unique is anything you install you feel an improvement.
Great information 👍.. I am happy with this 04 and the RC valve. I need to start tearing into it tomorrow. Lots of fun.
My parts are coming from all over the place. I need to open them up but there are a few important parts that are in transit holding up the motor work.
JM racing is the gooroo for the 04 & cr125,s. Don’t ovr bore the cylinder the exhaust bridge gets too thin. It’s the only cr125 that you can not make into a 144, to give you an idea. I had a mri Fri morning on my lower back . I can’t wait to get that fixed. Then it’s game on
I am keeping mine a 125cc but will be having the cylinder ported. Pending parts to deliver decided I am buying a new cylinder once I have the parts will send the cylinder.. head & PVs off for porting then it's time to freshen up the bottom end. I can't wait to get started but also taking my time tons of parts to unbox plus still need to order a few things. There won't be much of the original 04 left when I am done.
