Can’t decide between the KTM and the Fantic. Price not an issue, they are almost the same.
KTM:

Newer technology

One thing holding me back on the KTM is the mapping problems(first year bike).

what about reliability/ease of maintenance?

The Fantic:

basically a slightly tuned Yamaha.

great forks

dealership closeby
older technology (maybe more reliable?)

anyways, which one would you pick and why?

Fantic don’t know everything about the bike but isn’t a modded race ready bike. The fi Ktm sounds like there having problems getting it to run right.  Get what your most comfortable on. I like the 04 cr125 feel & handling the most. Decked , ported, different carb taper . Quick responding with a long & strong mid pull into the top end. 38,39 hp short shift or rev it out , perfect for me.

I hear ya proeshenal, I'd lean toward the Fantic myself but  would like either bike fine.

I don't like how the KTM's are having all these issues and with the electronics locked up you're screwed. All you can do is spend more money (and lots of it) to maybe get it right. I was there back in 2007 with a Husky TE510. I thought it was going to be so cool to have a fuel injected four stroke. Way wrong. It would run like shit and do weird things and there was nothing I or a very reputable husky dealer could do about it.

At least with a Fantic you can tune and work on things.

I was thinking the same thing about the efi. With a carbureted bike, it only takes some proper jetting. If the KTM doesn’t run like it should, I ve probably got to take it back to the dealership (several times maybe)

Sweet 95 Bigsal . He has a Fantic dealer close by easy decision . I watch some of the emx 125 races the Fantic is usually in the front. They must know what there doing, being they hv the fastest bike in the world. I keep seeing that 250 Fantic rider jumping Larocco,s leap like it’s a fair race double. That rider is a ripper

Yeah, Fantic must have some really good talent scouts and some really fast bikes.
