My wife and grown kids watch it a lot, me sporadically - and generally find it

hilarious, especially the obscure humor - my curiosity lies in the fact that it

seems to host the most controversial topics and yet doesn't seem to get blasted

by the "do-gooders "(?)

Did I miss the protests ?

Almost every episode has at least one "OHMYGOD, I can't believe they said that on TV..."

You can get away with a lot of shit with animation. Because nobody attacks an animated character versus a real person.

If I ever ran a large corporation I would use animated characters for all of my commercials and spokesperson. Because animated characters can't come back and sue you like real people can.

Did 'Family Guy' Go Too Far With Nazi 'McCain' Pin?

Fox

The animated sitcom 'Family Guy' is no stranger to controversy, but on Sunday night the show went into uncharted territory as it seemed to weigh in on the presidential race by likening the McCain/Palin ticket to the Nazi party in World War II.

In the episode, two of the characters, Stewie (a talking baby) and Brian (a talking dog) are transported to Poland during the Nazi invasion of World War II. In one scene, the characters beat up and steal the uniforms of two Nazi officers. Stewie looks down at his Nazi uniform and notices a McCain/Palin campaign button attached to its lapel, remarking “Huh, that’s weird."

The McCain campaign did not have an immediate comment. A rep for the show defended the episode, telling Foxnews.com: "From its inception, 'Family Guy' has used provocative concepts and biting satire as the foundation of its humor. The show is an 'equal oportunity offender.'"

The show's creator, Seth MacFarlane, is an ardent supporter of Barack Obama. MacFarlane has given thousands to the Democratic presidential nominee and the Democratic Party, and even spoke at an Obama rally in Ohio earlier this month.

In the past, MacFarlane has gotten into hot water for his skewering of several subjects, including actor and Scientologist Tom Cruise.

Comedian Carol Burnett also unsuccessfully sued the program for its depiction of her cleaning-woman character.

The Fox sitcom was cancelled in 2002 after failing to find an audience, but has improved significantly in the ratings since being brought back to the network in 2005. The show centers on a dysfunctional family living in the fictional town of Quahog, Rhode Island.

The reason is because Seth Macfarlane tells those groups to shove it.

Here's a quote from a recent interview about a religious group that came after him and his advertisers:

http://www.advocate.com/News/Daily_News/2009/03/11/Gay_Orgy_on___39;Fam…

"Oh, yeah. That's like getting hate mail from Hitler. They're literally terrible human beings. I've read their newsletter, I've visited their website, and they're just rotten to the core. For an organization that prides itself on Christian values -- I mean, I'm an atheist, so what do I know? -- they spend their entire day hating people. They can all suck my dick as far as I'm concerned." -- Seth Macfarlane

I don't think he really had many. He was the youngest guy ever to be the head of a show like that, I think. Basically fresh out of college.

Remember all the uproar about Bart Simpson's underachiever status and "eat my shorts". Things have changed.

Favorite Stewie quote: "Nothing says obey me like a bloody head on a fence post".

I like Robot Chicken too.

My favorite Family Guy is when Brian (the dog) becomes a drug dog and turns into a junkie.

Seth is brilliant and Family Guy is one of the best shows on tv. But he did do some pretty serious stuff before Family Guy.

Career in animation and television
At Hanna-Barbera, MacFarlane worked as an animator and writer for Cartoon Network's Cartoon Cartoons series.[14] He also worked on Johnny Bravo, Cow and Chicken, and Dexter's Laboratory.[15] MacFarlane also created and wrote a short titled "Zoomates" for Frederator Studios' Oh Yeah! Cartoons on Nickelodeon.[16] In 1996, MacFarlane created a sequel to The Life of Larry called Larry and Steve, which featured a middle-aged character named Larry and an intellectual dog, Steve. The short was broadcast as one of Cartoon Network's World Premiere Toons. Executives at Fox saw both Larry shorts and contracted MacFarlane to create a series based on the characters, to be called Family Guy.[1]

At 24, MacFarlane was television's youngest executive producer.[7] Fox proposed MacFarlane complete a 15-minute short, giving him a budget of $50,000.[17] MacFarlane stated that the pilot for Family Guy took half a year to create and produce.[13] Recalling the experience in an interview with The New York Times, MacFarlane stated, "I spent about six months with no sleep and no life, just drawing like crazy in my kitchen and doing this pilot".[18]

Bolstered by high DVD sales and established fan loyalty, Family Guy developed into a $1 billion franchise.[17] On May 4, 2008, after approximately two and a half years of negotiations, MacFarlane reached a $100 million agreement with Fox to keep Family Guy and American Dad until 2012. The deal makes him the world's highest paid television writer.[19]

MacFarlane has come under fire by many critics for 'blandness' in his characters, most notably in a review of American Dad! by Jeff Cohen, who stated, "It's the same chemistry as Family Guy. The daft father, indifferent mother, older and uncool daughter and younger, nerdy and thick son are all too the same. The variety? Instead of a talking dog, we get a talking fish or, in the case of his latest show, The Cleveland Show, talking bears. And instead of a super-intelligent baby we have an undiscovered alien. And The Cleveland Show is looking set to head right down that route."[20]
