Interesting that the RMX head has to be used.
It’s funny everytime someone says “why hasn’t Suzuki made an E-start 450!?!?!?”
and I respond “they did, a long long time ago” they always say I’m dumb and don’t know what I’m talking about till I refer them to the RMX😂😂😂
The cam chain tensioner on the RM-Z is located in the cylinder(would be in the way of the starter motor). I'm assuming the chain guides would be different also.
Wonder if that's sharpmoto in FL, by elliott cook. Good guy, treated me very well, and does good work. What a cool project.

Yup that is him
Yeah that's awesome. He is a suzuki database at this point.
Maybe HEP should hire the man.
Be interesting to see if anything comes of it but my thought is that it is going to be heavy and still down on power which HEP wants neither of im sure.
How much weight does it add?
Copy. I'm FAR from an expert on how 4-bangers work so appreciate the intel.
Pretty sure you can use RMX motor due its not AMA approved for RMZ frame.
hey guys thank you for the Shout out. Its been a fun project so far let me know if you have any questions!
Thank man hope your well
Not quite as much as you'd expect....Once we removed the kickstarter, kickstarter gear and spring setup that was all quite heavy. We lost some weight on the engine side but will gain a bit with the battery.
This is cool. If I remember right, Hubert Rowland built one for Travis a few years back. I never saw it in person but I think it was floating around for sale on ebay and FB marketplace at one point.
Elliot, I've seen your stuff on IG. Pretty rad.
Hey man I really appreciate it thank you...Yes i remember huberts, I actually asked him about it a couple years ago he told me once they made it high compression with race parts, the electric start wouldn't turn it over but it would kick start fine..So I am expecting that but I think I can work around it
At A-1 Kenny finishes 5th place. Five seconds behind Ferrandis and thirteen seconds ahead of Nichols. So the question goes out, if Kenny has a E-start, how much better does Kenny finish?
I know if you stall it, it takes longer to get going, in which you loose position, points and championships. E-start is better in the long run, BUT, if Kenny has a e-start, where does he finish at A-1?
A customer of mine had that bike that you are talking about. It was more RMX than RMZ. I think the subframe was RMX. I made replica graphics for it and we used RMX side plates and rear fender. I don't know if anything was done to the engine itself to make it faster. The bike looked very stock on the outside and looked like it had very little time on it. When my customer got it , it looked like a stock RMZ with RMX sideplates. He had me make graphics that were more travis like. I don't think he ever rode it. And I think he ended up selling or trading it. It looked like it would be a very easy swap to do if you had both bikes to take parts off. But maybe it was just done very well and looked stock , but more was done to it.
Cool project. I don't think that the RMZ cases would be legal to use for SX though. Maybe they could modify the rmz case to work with some of the RMX parts that could be legally used? They have got those bikes starting so easy though. If anybody would have done it, I would think that JGR would have.
But the engine this guy is building would be great for everybody that is not racing an AMA pro race. It still surprises me that people do not know about the RMX still. I've thought it would be a fun bike to make into a dual sport bike that looked like a MX bike.
Pit Row
Kick start works fine. Kenny would of finished exactly the same as he did either way..I am just trying to do something Suzuki won't and its the #1 thing people complain about. Figured I might as well build it!
Don’t get me wrong, if the RMZ had it, they would sell more. Making this item would be trick. Would you sell a lot of them?
Had a friend back in the day that worked at a Honda dealership, replaced XR 400 cases with ATV cases, that had electric starters. He did 3 or 4 of them, but in the end just cost to much cash.
