Anyone else think Bailey was out of line?

Congrats to Tommy Hahn!! He's been knocking on the door most of the season and he deserved that win. And no, Bailey was not out of line. Many of these highly paid factory riders have had dismal results all year going way back to SX. Some of them should be embarassed with some of their performances and results. No question about it!

I get so tired of hearing the argument that "If you haven't raced at that level, you just don't know."

Granted, I have absofugginloutely no idea what it takes to race at that level. And for sure, these factory guys surely don't have to answer to me, you or any of the other people on this board. But, what I just cannot fathom is how these dudes turn up back at the rig after these half assed rides and expect the level of commitment THEY need to compete from the team around them, if they are not putting in the work themselves or lack the desire all together.

Just maybe, if these guys were paid (salary-wise) based on their results, like golf, there would be a lot more hard work going on during the week instead of tummy aches and other bullshit...Didn't RC used to literally crap his pants during races (From IBS)? Guess what, he still kicked everyone else's asses. That's not talent - that is desire.

but it is true even if you get tired of hearing it so what is yer point besides whining?

i like yer golf deally but you never hear of a guy breaking his neck in golf and shitting in a bag and not getting a hard on and not having a bowel movement in golf...from a golfing accident at least.

You say you want people in the industry to be more upfront and honest, rather than being wishy-washy or silent on things, and when someone speaks their mind, you give him shit for it.

So you guys that are defending DB actually believe that riders on a satelite team should never beat a factory rider? Seriously? If that is the case, why even bother having anything other than a factory team? Do you also believe that every lites class factory rider 2 years ago should have been ashamed of themselves for the whole sx season because jlaw who was not on a factory team, beat them? What about when a Pro Circuit rider wins? They aren't a factory team. I always have thought that was the whole purpose of racing, that you never knew who was going to win until the checkered flag drops.

One of the things that really bugs me about the sport today is the classification of Privateer vs Factory rider . A lot of the satelite teams work with and have tons of support from the factory , sure some of them don`t but they have big budgets and new parts for every race. More times than not the Satelite teams that don`t get all the trick parts from the factory and who rely on aftermarket and custom engine and suspension tuners
will get a lot better quality and time put into there bikes than the average "TRUE PRIVATEER"

If you fly to the races , grab your rental car ,check into your hotel which by the way is all booked , payed for and set up by someone else , then arrive at the track where your freshly tuned "race bike" sits under the awning of a custom built semi truck with everything a factory has on theres with an endless supply of parts HOW CAN YOU CALL YOURSELF A PRIVATEER ...That is just stupid. Let the true privateers battle for that money .

I would say that wonder wart hog is where you would draw the line. That is pretty much a transport service , but any of the other teams forget it.

I don`t know how many of you remember the 1989 125cc nationals but that year Donny Schmit was a TRUE PRIVATEER.. He bought his own Hondas , had Mitch build the motors , worked out of a box van and ended up getting 4th overall I believe for the season . That is a privateer .. Or Guy Cooper back in the mid 80s driving to the races in a van with his wife running the pit board and getting podiums and wins... Those days are gone because there are so many Factory teams / Satelite Factory teams the true privateers don`t stand a chance any more .

It is a different sport now than it was 20 years ago , hell even 10 so I think its about time they modify the term privateer .

As for what DB said I don`t have a problem with it. I think it made more sense to say something like that 15 years ago but oh well. Its Factory Honda , It used to be that you won when you rode for Honda or you didnt ride for Honda. Its not like that anymore and if it were me I would shit can the entire Honda program and from the Management down . Start fresh and get back to where they used to be .

You guys make me laugh thinking Team Honda is all that and is still the big powerhouse that is was back in the 80s with the best bikes out there. That has not been the case for the last 15 years... Get over it already...

It sure looks to me that they provided their riders with a POS bike to ride this year and that everyone of em struggled bad with the bike for a while.

BobbyM, you're right, it comes off as whining, but I'm still tired of that viewpoint when there's so much else that goes into who these guys are letting down besides nobody fans like myself. Doesn't take a world class rider to understand commitment or devotion. I think (or, hope) each and every one of us has that sort of commitment to something on some level...family, religion, occupation, whatever...

And Steve47, if the Honda was such a POS, why did AS and Davi re-up for 2 years? Surely they had the opportunity to ride and/or test well before signing, no??? And surely, they had other suitors besides Honda?

IT- Broke (cracked) ribs in a big first moto crash last week at Southwick.

Short- Has been stated numerous times that he has been battling illness for a long time that doctors can't figure out. I do not know the extent of it but I just know it has been mentioned in weeks past.

Millsaps- Going off of what Hamblin stated here a few weeks ago, the guy can't turn his neck without it locking up.

Is this stuff true? I don't know for sure. Just what I have heard watching TV or reading on the net. But this stuff is always forgotten and less than expected results happen and then all of the sudden guys that have won championships and many races are looked down upon as not having heart or just not performing.

the truth is there is always more to the story.

You are only as good s your last race though.... right?

Until Anaheim 1!!! J/K!!!

HAHA!

I was being sarcastic. I HATE that saying "your only good as your last race"

I am just trying to say that usually there is a reason for bad results. These guys don't just give up.

If it is known that IT has broken ribs and gutted it out is he a hero? if not then why not? He said he has cracked ribs, we all saw him ride off the first moto at Southwick in pain.... does that mean anything? Does that override what Bailey said?

What if Milsaps can't turn his head and is gutting it out? Does the perception change?

What about Short and his illness HE has mentioned numerous times? Maybe he is the toughest out there for just being able to finish every week?

I think sometimes the announcers, or Monday morning quarterbacks say things without remembering all the facts. announcing is tough!

If they're not expected to win why bother investing so much more in just a few guys?

because most motocrossers are tough as nails on the track...off the track? well....most have been coddled, same as any superior athlete. shame really what the am system does to most riders.

Why can a guy not have an opinion. This is why no one ever speaks up and they continue to give bland boring answers. Anytime someone speaks their mind the message boards light up. DB is CORE motocross!!! He is entitled to say whatever he wants!

Because MX is a small niche sport. Everyone in the industry are buddies and ass slappers. For one of their own to make such brash statements is unheard of.

Amazing the attitude towards Bailey's opinions. Our sport needs more of it(critical opinions)... Just like the REAL sports...

WTF? 4 pages stating the obvious?

DB is entitled to say whatever he wants, he's really entitled to his (in my view) rather humble opinions. If I where in his shoes I would probably cause a meltdown around here. What is really amazing is that people are inable to accept other views than their own and get all emotional and call it "out of line"? Maybe I'm doing that as well now? LOL!

Should we make this post every time anyone says something that we disagree with which we all do at times? It's not that he's mocking children with cancer here, we are talking about grown up men making loads of cash riding motorcycles. And, isn't it obvious they are not delivering up to team Honda standars? That of course is just an opinon.

Seriously, the guy is the best commentator in ages.

How can you criticise Bailey... what he has done in the sport is enough to know the standards he pushed himself too and the dedication and training he put in... never mind all the things he has gone through since that make motocross look easy..

From a man in his postion who knows what it takes in motocross and even more in life... he has every right to question their performance and effort etc... I bet John Dowd gave him even more food for thought about how he would do if he was able.

Bailey opinions on US motocross are 99% accurate... he knows what it takes and how to get there.

His comments about Short, IT9, and Millsaps should be embarassed that they were getting beat by Tommy Hahn? Ivan ended up passing him and almost got the overall, Short did fairly well. I didn't see where Millsaps finished. Short and Ivan finished 2nd and 3rd for the season. Millsaps has been riding injured all season. Cut him some slack. He had nothing else to say about any other factory rider that Hahn was beating. I like Hahn and I'm glad he's had some good finishes this year and ended up with an overall, but to say that because he was ahead of the factory guys for one moto was a bit over the top and ignorant of him to say. Anyone else feel the same?
Amen! Could you imagine what Hannah would be saying about these riders?

I would of turned it around the other way and mention how awesome Hahn was going to beat the field of Factory Honda riders. Was it a good performance by Hahn or a bad performance by the Honda pilots?
