does it really help with bike sales? I admittedly don't have sales figure but looking at the results from the pro's/amateurs nationally and locally no one seems to be buying them.

i can tell you that as a motorcycle salesman in the industry(yamaha and suzuki) suzukis at least sell out at my shop we can't even give away 09 yz 450s for under 56otd but people will buy the rmz 08 450s for more......we sold out of 09 rmz 250s and have 8 09 yz250s left

I bet it depends where you live. In some places the local dealer sells Suzuki and everyone buys them, other places you'll not see one single Zook. In Norway there are very few zookers.

Definitley depends on the area.......Around here there are as many KTM's at the track as any other bike.

here its kawa, zook and ktm...almost no honda or yamaha...

Lots of Kawasakis in our area, followed by Hondas. Probably due to decent dealers, but talking to the riders always brings up the chance to earn Kawi Bucks.

yz250 2-strokes? Man, I haven't seen one of those at my dealer in a few years which is why I quit going in there.

racing scooters or even cars for that matter started off as a rich kids/mans/owners/flounders hobby, somebody that was affiliated with the company near the top.


never to sell shit...that was an afterthought.


it is still today to some degree but the economy has changed that this time around....that is the diff.

Doesn't Suzuki have a pretty good amateur contingency program? Or did that go away? I can't afford anything anymore so I'm out of the loop.

Ya and just think of what I heard yesterday from a friend that owns a OTD dealership he said the 2010 Honda CRF 250 will go for $7700 OTD.
Its funny how the economy is so shitty and racing is down to 17 to 20 motos instead of 30+ motos just a few years ago and bikes, exhaust,suspension track fees everything has gone UP.

I'm definitely in the minority on my Zook around North Texas, but the small town dealer
I bought it from sold 8 of these 08.5 RMZ 450's from last November to January.

I really wouldn't have cared who was riding this bike and winning on it. The price,dealer support, and the tests describing the handling of it, is why I went yellow. Now if I could have gotten an 09 KX450F for the same price at the time, I would have stayed green, I'm glad that didn't happen though because this has been one of the best bikes I've ever owned.

hondas and yamahas are fairly even around here, suzukis slightly behind, but I'd say a good majority of people are on kawis due to contingency around here. The past few races, every bike in my class was a kawi.

Suzuki's sales were down 65% in 2009. I wounder if them winning the 250 and 450 outdoor championship will turn things around for them?

I know first hand that there are only a few riders that actually translate what they wear or ride into sales. Gear and motorcycle companies try to track this and it's hard. I've spoke to people from MX Gear companies and by people ordering or buying the gear pro's race with on a certain weekend, they feel this show's fan's that ride want what their favorite rider wears.

The riders that translate sponsorship into sales are (from what I've been told):
Jeremy McGrath (before 2004)
Travis P.
James Stewart

Magazines sell more bikes than racing does. Bad reviews absolutely kill sales.

I think that if gear companies want to sell more gear they out to consider gear that is attractive instead gear that a circus clown could wear with no modifications i.e. the gear Tommy Hahn was wearing this weekend. Good lord IMO, that stuff was hideous.

Suzuki just came out with some bitching financing too 1.99% OAC but Yamaha has had good deals for a while because they wanted to clear out there 08s and 09s with the debut of the all new 10 coming out...hopefully tomorrow.

Like Davis said Kawi is becoming the main brand around here because of the contingency. Three different series around here are paying. I heard of a couple more families this weekend who are switching to kawi.

What the pros ride has never affected my choice at all. The bikes they ride are nowhere close to the same as a stock bike that average joe buys at the local shop. Heck Mitch Payton can make a kx 125 able to win races but a stock one was a turd.
