I read 2024 on the internet. So it has to be true.

It’s funny people make such a big deal about the kickstarter. Ktm had electric start since 2013 and hardly anyone I know of claimed it as a big advantage….Most the jap bikes didn’t have it until 2018–19 or so. However now it’s some huge advantage and if your motocross bike doesn’t start like a four-wheeler you are screwed I guess lmao

That Suzuki platform is solid. Handles great and has great ergonomics. Throw a damn rekluse on the thing and who cares.

TLD switched from Honda because they felt it was an advantage.

If that was a deciding factor I’m sure it was at the tail end of a long list of more important ones. More like a perk Lol

I think that is a rekluse clutch. Don't have but rode one once; can come to a complete stop in gear and won't stall. A fellow Suzuki rider picked one up because he was tiring of losing races because of stalls.

I bet Roczen goes Hinson though.

Novice class? How many times did he stall? Why does he keep letting it happen?

Novice class??? Some of the best in the biz drag the rear break. Especially the "steer with the rear guys" No chance of stalling when you roll into the corners.....

Actually it was one of the main things he pointed out. I even asked him about it and he said if two guys go down while up front and only one has electric start, he wants it to be his guy.

Yes, me and my buddies are perpetual Vet novices. I've stalled my CR500 once or twice. My buddy more than he cares to remember. That problem when you don't ride enough to be good enough to not stall.

The guy who just signed a multi year deal to promote a bike pointed to the bike's superiority as the reason?

You don't say.

You don't say.

A quick search and here's the first link pulled up.

“KTM has won a lot of championships just with the electric starter alone, and Roger (De Coster) would joke with me about it after the races. I really want to win a championship; I’ve got a lot of respect for Roger, and I’ve known him a long time, then I met Jon-Erik (Burleson, President of KTM North America) who kept hounding me to talk to KTM. We got talking more and more, and the more I talked with both of them I got a really good feeling, especially with their philosophy of it being racing first, and lets sell bikes later.”

I didn't doubt that he said it. I'm saying it's literally his job to sell KTMs and point out the nice features of the bike.

In fact you even linked a KTM promotional page.

For arguments sake I found this article as there isn’t much on it. No mention of an electric start. It seemed more a move to build ktms amateur program and give their riders a transition into the pros. Like I said electric start was a perk but definitely not the sole reason. That was a selling point. Not to mention Andrew shorts battery catching fire burned up the teams race trailer around that time. So not sure they were to proud of that lol

Bike and it's features are ALWAYS gonna be "first thing on the list" after a team switches to a new manufacturer.

The article says it's literally the reason he switched. Not a listed feature after he switched.

A feature of the bike will always be "the reason they switched."

It turns great, motor is excellent, electric start, platform is proven, whatever...

Not being a dick but my comment was in reference to the article I posted at the end of that post. Anyhoo I’ll agree to disagree with you. 🍻

My reply was based on your comment that KTM had E start and nobody claimed it to be an advantage. I don't care either way. As you can see by my profile pic, I have a Kickstart. I just remember Troy saying it was why he switched...so he saw it as a big advantage. Nothing to disagree on, just a fact.

It’s funny people make such a big deal about the kickstarter. Ktm had electric start since 2013 and hardly anyone I know of claimed it as a big advantage….Most the jap bikes didn’t have it until 2018–19 or so. Factory supported teams don’t switch manufacturers based on the method of how a motorcycle is started.

You understand that type of article is designed through PR narrative, right?

They're not necessarily untrue, but they are seeded around the marketing theme of the subject.

You're so right. Racer X doesn't do interviews...they just print PR pieces. Troy didn't think at all about the A1 battle and what Anderson said. He also didn't try to put an e-start on the Honda.

Again, the conversation is e-start wasn't looked at as an advantage. Yet it's the focal point of the article on the team reason for switching. Is it the only reason, of coarse not.

There's a truth to nearly all decent marketing. And, yes, electric start is a legitimate advantage they had that they were trying to sell there. But, make no mistake, selling is the point of the piece.

So we agree. He saw E-start as a legitimate advantage.

That's my only point. Nothing more. He tried to add it to the Honda. In the end he switched to the team that already had it. He talked about it a lot, so it was a factor.

BTW, I'm not down voting you.

Yes 100% agreement, there.
But the idea that it is the hingepin of his core business partnerships is ludicrous.
