I wish you and the other "euros" would just accept the reality that the AMA national championship is the fastest, richest, most prestigious series in the world...

Europe vs USA, excluding this year when was the last time you could field a team from Europe capable of beating the US riders? I don't mean bits and pieces of years past, just three guys you could make a team of that were legitimate threats going in?

Why don't they ever have anything for the US team during qualifying when the overall isn't on the line? Even when it's on regular GP tracks.
I meant a more fantasy 50/50 race, 20 Yanks/20 Euros..

But to answer your question, I'd send Chris Pourcel, Caroli & an on form Tommy Searle, the 3rd pick is tricky!

I think one of the main advantages the Nationals have over the GP's is a much more exciting TV package. I find the GP coverage really boring, but I follow the Nationals religiously. The American MX media definitely seem more exciting and dynamic than the dinosaurs putting the GP shows together. Think the TV coverage makes a massive impression on the general 'prestigiousness' of the Nationals. Just branding effectively...

Wonder what hes like at SX? Pourcel seemed to get to grips with it so don't see why TC couldn't.

Roczen will be the next Euro to go Stateside.

I really can't see anything that would lure Toni to the states. He has a new challenge with KTM, and with Desalle on a Factory Zook, plus team rivalry between Nagl and Barragan he'll have more of a challenge in the GPs.

Anyway there's no way he'd step down to a 250 now and that seems to be the requirement / right of passage that Yank teams direct a GP guy regardless of experience. The fact that Christophe is having to ride a 250 once more in '10 when there is so much deadwood in their 450 class is a fucking joke.
i think we as fans here wonder the same thing, why do they put someome in the 250 class when they have credentials such as having a world championship, thats stupid

When Stewart gets off the couch and villopoto is back riding then i'll hold my hands up and say America has the 2 fastest riders in the world.

This year your 250 class has been alot faster than our MX2 but our MX1 is faster than your 450 class.

Oh and by the way your probably more "euro" than what i am buddy.

How can you possibly call Stewart out for not going for the Overall, when Everts did the same thing against RC?

It is really lame how people do not realize how a team event works. Egotism, and Vanity have no place in that style event.

Is it a shame that this is the only event we can compare our top riders and bench race? Yes. But, it will always be this way as the event format remains.

These discussions are always US vs the world. When 99% of US fans that I know could not care less over where a rider is from.
A good rider is a good rider period.
CP gets tons of praise, and recognition here and next year when ppl get to know him a little more, he will have a shite load of fans on top of the tons he has now. And he's on a pro circuit 250f because it is the place to be in US teams! Look at the door on the hauler!

That's only part of it...

America is where the money is...the fastest riders go where the money is...that is why we get some of the GP's top talent, while the GP's never get any of ours (until they are past their prime and even then only what? 3 or 4 the past 20 years?)

So we've got:

Better TV package
More Money
The Fastest Riders
the most Factory support
Better Media coverage
More talent

It isn't reall a debate as to which series is the best...I still don't comprehend why people just can't accept that...the GP's aren't what they once were...

Whether or not the talent from the GP's comes for supercross, they race the outdoors, and they add to the depth, speed and prestige by doing so...

You get a better TV package ? I get to watch every single GP moto on my 60-inch plasma screen live.

You get to watch the first motos live on your computer screen and then you have to listen to someone telling whats going on in the 2nd motos.

Each man to their own i guess.

TV package? GPs live on freecaster and TV - AMA half assed job with only the 1st motos broadcast on web, delayed TV coverage.

More money - i'll agree with you on that one. States have it.

Fastest riders - we'll be hear all night..........

Most factory support - pull your head out the sand, you don't even have proper factory bikes....Has Tommy got linkage in the statess? No, Simpson does. GP bikes are tricker full stop.

Media coverage - Motoverte and Moto are every bit as good as Racer X or Transworld, Motocross makes the regular newspapers in Holland and Belgium, our TV coverage is better.

More talent? Again debatable.

Your argument isn't as solid as you'd like to believe.

But hey, i'd still shoot the shit with you if you were hanging over the fence next to me - all good fun.

We all know what Desalle did at Wahougal. We also know how he's doing in the GP series. We all know what Swanepoel did at the next round in the AMA series and we all know how long it took him to put down a decent result in europe. And we all know how Marc de Reuver did last year at Southwick and we all know he he did in the GP series. Their results all looked similar with how the finish in Europe.

Now we should find an american guy that rides the AMA series that is willing to come over to europe for a one of event and check out how he does.... wait a minute... i found one Smile
A guy named Robby Marshall. OK... he's no Bubba and he's no RC but he is a decent rider that is capable of some top 10 finishes. Look at his results in Southwick.
moto 1 :

moto 2 :

5th and 7th... no top rider but it gives us some idea on where he is in the AMA series. Same as DeReuver (who finished 2nd i believe in moto 1 in last year in Southwick) and Swanepoel (who finished 6th overall if i remember correctly). Maybe Robby is not comparable to Clement Desalle but hey... the AMA series is superiour... not ?

If i see a 5th and 7th place of an american rider in the AMA series and he is willing to go to Europe for a race i expect him to finish inside the top 5 in Europe as well... Hell... the AMA series is superiour so winning should be no problem at all...(if i read some of your guys posts that is...)

Well... Robby came to Europe. He entered the race in Lommel. On a Suzuki 450, just like he rides in the USA. Probably not exactly the same bike but DeReuver, Desalle and Swanepoel also were not on their normal bikes. Desalle was on a stock bike...

And how did Robby do ? Well.... In the qualifying race Robby finished 18th out of 31. Not exactly what you would expect from a guy from a superiour series... And the worst was yet to come. On sunday, when the track really got rough, when the boys were done playing and the real men showed themselves Robby finished 30th in moto 1 and 31st (and dead last) in moto 2. (check http://www.motocrossmx1.com/ for results if you don't believe me) Superiour series ?? My ass.... A guy that finished in 5th position on a sand track in the USA can't even finish inside the top 15 on a sand track in europe.

No series is superiour. They are equal. Every series has some great riders. Shame some of you guys can't see it. And it really is a shame that a thread that is started with Cairoli again has to end in a "which series is best" discussion. Grow up...

washougal is slick so a rleatively stock bike would do ok there and a rider with smooth throttle control. not a good track for the wide open type riders

Get your ass over to the nations, support your boys, chew the fat with us euros and i'll buy you an iced soda....lol I'm sure the bench racing would be just as close as the action on the track haha

BTW "Holy shit what a dream I was having louis armstrong was trying to kill me" - LMAO what a line!
I wish I could. I got my buddies wedding coming up in Belfast, and that's where my funds gotta go at this point. I will be in your neck of the woods tho, his crew does all their stag nights in Edinburgh, I think this one will be no different. We had an epic one in 06 -that is a fun town. "The Westerner" was a fun place, went to about a dozen other places over the long weekend, but that is the only name I can remember besides the Edinburgh castle, which was quite a site.

I been to Europe several times and met many awesome people. I personally hate US vs the World approach when we all love the same sport. But a good debate is always fun for sure.

Not hypocrite. I just can't understand why a thread that started out with congratulating Cairoli Tony for winning a very important title again has to end with the same old discussion.
And you still haven't answered my question.

There are more riders that came from the USA and really found it harder then they thought. You know what ? I have always cheered for those guys. Just because i think it is great that they have the balls to come over and race our best guys. Those guys have my respect. Even if they have a harder time then they previously thought.

Shame some of you can't give our riders the same respect.

Exactly I have more respect for the US riders that leave their national series and come and race the World Championship... I remember sean saying some guys in the US underestimate the GP riders and that it is really different than US racing...I agree both series are different but both are equally great in their on way, but imo in america they overrate their own riders and underrate the GP riders (until they ride in the AMA then they become superior to the current GP guys) even though they dont watch the GPs. When in reality the GP riders are every bit as good as the American guy, in some ways better, and in other ways not as good.

I think alot of US guys seem to think we look at the AMA stuff the same way they look at the GPs ie inferier 2nd rate series ... not true AMA SX/MX combo is amazing. but I still believe the GPs are more prestigious than the AMA nationals But the AMA nationals are the best national championship in the world. Both series are great.

No us rider would have found it easier to race the GPs against Cairoli and co. than racing their own national championship.

Comparing racing in lommel withsouthwick is just wrong. Southwick's sand isn't as deep as lommel. And home advantage like they said.

Even cairoli as world champion. And it's hard to say as a cairoli fan isn't going to beat a fit de Reuver, de Dycker and even strijbos in lommel or lierop. He can run with them on a good day. But if you want to beat them, that is something else. The thing that makes him a champion is that he is fast on everything. And you win titles on your bad days.

And if Cairoli is fit at the nations Reed isn't gone know what hit him. But we first have to wait and see what is wrong with his knee.

Titan has been spot on on just about every comment on this thread. Both US fans and Euro fans may talk smack about the each series, but in the end we all know that AMA SX and Nationals are the premier series.

"These are the facts of the case, and they are undisputed" what movie? Wink
