Can a rider sue someone like Pingree?

Calling Ping "Fake News" would cut much deeper than any lawsuit. 

If you start suing for alledged fake news, you're gonna need to build a lot of new courthouses.

The short answer is yes, but that's not going to happen. 

Too bad we can't sue him for being a total douchebag. 

You can sue for deformation. Yes.

But saying roczen declined a drug test is not deformation. Ans it is actually fact roczen declined the test.

You can sue anyone for any reason. Whether or not the judge laughs at you and throws out your case is what you have to find out.

It's defamation. It's a civil lawsuit and anyone can sue anyone, pretty much.

Defamation pertains to someone losing either current or future business opportunities due to whatever negative information is publicized about them. Ken would have to prove that he lost business due to what Ping said in order to claim defamation. 

So what did Ping say that qualifies as "slander" ?

I'm surprised it's taken this long. The dude has been condescending to everyone in this industry, especially the fans. He feels he's smarter than everyone in it - but in reality, he's just kind of a big fish in a small pond. 

I said this in the Sexton to KTM thread:

I have been in and out of the moto industry since I was a teenager, and some of my closest friends are current or former top riders. When they are balls deep in racing, there is little-to-no focus on current events and how to world works. When they retire and start catching as glimpse of the real world, it is really hard for them to process all the information and they get overwhelmed. That's why you see so many former riders making social media posts quoting QAnon-inspired articles. 

I am a partner in a company that makes composite pipelines for Oil & Gas - I am as conservative as they come. But my opinions and beliefs are based on the experiences I have doing business and living in the real world. As a matter of fact, I just returned from a conference with all the major players in Oil & Gas, future fuels (green technologies) and multiple government agencies, including big time politicians. I spent 3 days getting the inside line on the future of energy around the world. 

When I'm involved in the moto industry, my blinders are put on a bit from reality and I begin to become out of touch. I am disconnected and my opinions don't hold much water.  

When I probe my racing buddies why their feelings are so strong on topics, their arguments last about 15-30 seconds and they begin to see the holes in their own stories. 

Ping needs to be able to look at the chaos around him, not freak out, and figure out how to make a big impact, not just noise. Or he can figure out how to best navigate through this crazy world for him and his family, and enjoy the fact he gets to escape from reality and live in the moto bubble.

It isn’t only Ping saying Astephen isn’t making 100% sense here..

I am a big fan of the WTS, but I’ve tried to like Ping for years now and the dude is just as arrogant as they come. His social media use just publicizes it for every one to see, I really thought it was weak and cringey to try and make jabs at Vital while boasting about his own forum on Instagram a few weeks back.

You can basically sue anyone for anything, but you won't win unless you have evidence of compensable damages. Unlikely here.
