Team Gear Deals

I understand the reason behind team gear deals but I miss the days where everyone had their own gear deals and unique look. Even the gear companies put their riders in the same gear each week.

I think back To the Hondaline vs Fox issues with RJ that led to him wearing JT and Thor at the end of his career. But then I think how freaking awesome Team Peak was those first couple years. But I also think about Team Suzuki with what seemed like 90% of the 125's on the line and every guy wearing their own stuff.

How much do the teams gain and the riders lose due to these team gear deals?

at the factory 450 level, it's the same as it's always been. Riders are free to do their own deals.

Team deals are really only seen in 250 and satellite/private 450 teams

I can see why the gear companies put a bunch of guys in the same gear when they have something new. It stands out when you have 10 guys wearing the same stuff . I liked how the Star team had split up the gear so some riders had different colorways than the others at a few rounds of Outdoors. The think i dislike about the team gear deals is how it could keep a rider from going to a team , or put an end to a long-term deal that a gear company had with a rider. Like how strange would it be to see Kenny wearing something other than Fox with Red Bull on it? It seems to work better on the 250 teams than the 450 teams. I imagine it depends on the team and deals each team has, but it could help some teams be able to pay a rider more since they have the gear money. For an individual rider that is very marketable like most top 450 riders are the gear company can get more bang for the buck with the rider. And then for lesser known riders , the team deal gives the company more exposure by being on the known team .

I love team gear deals, as long as they are allowed minor differences (gloves/goggles/boots). I think it makes it look more like a "team" and helps draw attention to that specific team

Makes sense to have a deal but all wearing the same colors I don’t like. Makes it especially hard to watch when 250 teams have riders with similar numbers and they all look the same. I get it for an LE gear release but rockstar husky and star the whole year I can’t tell who I’m watching

I am not a fan of that either. when teammates have similar numbers it gets easy to confuse one rider for another. The TV guys even mistake guys every so often. The team look is great for a Team when they first start out, get them noticed and when some new colorway comes out or something. But always looking the same makes it easier to not notice them too. I'm glad they do not make the Rockstar Husky guys wear the 1 or 2 Rockstar colorways for the entire season. I guess in one way if you get used to a rider in a certain colorway , its easier to notice them if you are looking for them. I like how Star or Thor lets the riders change up their glove colors . Maybe if each rider could have their name and number done in a different style it could help set each guy apart and make them easier for fans to find their favorite racer. Alpinestars has been good at doing cool stuff with the Lawrence brothers . How they will have different colorways but still connect them in some way. Or even just how they change up the way the names are so even if they wear the same colors you can still tell them apart easy. Like the Dumb and Dumber look they ran. I guess it comes down to what the team and gear company want to get out of the deal. The times that Fly or FXR came out with an LE color and had every rider that was wearing their gear wear the new colorway ,that really sticks out and I'm sure it gets a lot of attention for the gear companies. Every so often its cool so it sticks out.

I’d love see riders get to wear different colors, but I could literally watch most of these guys as black
Silhouettes and know who I’m watching but I’m weird about studying body positioning

I honestly can’t tell any of the guys on star or pc apart. Pc especially when the rider numbers change every year. I feel like all riders and get lost in translation after their first year if they don’t perform because next year someone else is on the exact same bike and gear replacing them
