Is the engine time that's tracked through the electronics and viewable on the app an accurate resource for buying a used YZ250F? Can it be reset or tampered with at all?

Yes it can be reset.

It’s as accurate as any other hour meter that isn’t OEM…

A dealer can look at ktm tpi ecus to get hours. Not sure about the 4 strokes or if a dealer can reset it. Of course if someone uses a get or vortex those hours won’t be on the stock ecu.

I never tried resetting mine but when I did maintenence and changed pistons you could reset it but not overall engine hours. In fact my app crashed and I had to delete it and re download and it lost all my maintenence records but engine hours were there.

I don’t think it can, but You can take the ecu off and use a vortex, then put the stock ecu back on when it’s time to sell.

You’ll know by looking at the machine if it has been treated well, regardless of hours.

I bought a new YZ250F 2020 and installed a hour meter. After 33,5 hours the OEM hour meter showed 31:11
So a little more than 2 hours difference.
