Agreed. Please vote. The reason I didn’t mention JoJo by name is because after JoJo there were several others that did it as well leading up to James doing itWink . Also, a certain member here insists that unless it was captured on video, it didn’t happen. Think of all those early innovations and championships that were complete fallacies! 😂

You seem to have an axe to grind with JS7, always talking shit.

Not at all. Just stating facts. You seem like you’re opposed to truth?

I'm voting James Stewart, because he's the one who popularized the term, "scrubbing." Although Keller, Johnson, Bailey, and many others did similar low-jumping techniques before, nobody brought it to a game-changing level the way James did.
Back in the day, we called it "pre-jumping," and the whip was optional. We'd try to leave the jump face before the crest or lip of the jump and stay low, as if the jump was only half as big. Some guys left the ground so early, they had to throw a tabletop (whip) to clear the top of the jump. James took that to the extreme.

That’s why I said ‘perfected it’. It was still a scrub when JoJo did it, James just took it to another level.

So you’re going to start a poll but argue with anyone who doesn’t agree with you? Hmmm…

I’m going to need a bag of popcorn for this one.

I believe Florence Nightingale is credited with creating the original scrub

Not arguing whatsoever! Simply stating a fact and some opinions.

It should be noted that after viewing the early results that these types of polls aren’t very trustworthy and are often flawed. Laughing

We've all seen the Jo Jo Keller whip, which is more of a kick-out. Its not a scrub. He just whipped the bike sideways when he saw the cameraman for that ONE and only photo. He never did it again, try and find another photo of him doing it. Stewart truly created the scrub and used it to go faster. No one else was throwing a bike flat on the lip of a jump like him. The only thing close was guys leaning over the bike (almost like a scrub) and crouching over the opposite side of the bike to suck up some upward momentum. Usually only done over a larger single rolling jump.

Lean over scrub

Bubba scrub

kick-out, never to be seen again

js7 and it ain't even close... FOH.. with any other's...sure they saved speed.. but they didn't coin scrubbing...If David Bailey didn't know what to say when he saw that.. then it was new for all the original motocrossers etc

I'm sure David Bailey knows who jojo keller is and he never said you know what.. Jojo keller used to kick everybody's ass with that move back in the 60s/70s/80s whenever he was racing

No one can possibly think JoJo is really doing a scrub in that picture?

Reading the other thread it has been amazing to me how many people didn't understand what scrubbing accomplishes.

That's the reason I went with Bubba. If Bailey didn't know what the hell he was looking at, that's good enough for me.

There are a lot of guys that "Butt Scrub" nowadays but a proper scrub is just missing the top of the jump. Leave the ground a bike length before the top of the jump and the apex of the jump is naturally lower. The whole laying it over just amplifies the effect.

I don't know, but this is Tallon Vohland in '97.

Does it again later.

The Magoo pic is an example of something you could see Danny pulling off at Marysville…in the late 70s/Early 80s…

He’d “Scrub” over the top of a jump by pre-jumping it via G-ing Out in a HUGE Sand-Whoop and “scrub” his way over the jump.

The 1st time I saw him do it, he was on a Maico.

He did it on his RC at MXdN or TdN in ‘82…

As for The Modern Scrub? That’s something that was perfected by The 259 on a 125.

If the “scrub” starts after the front wheel has left the ground, it’s not a scrub. If the front wheel is already in the air when the lean starts, you aren’t actually doing anything.

James is undeniably the first to begin scrubbing while both wheels were still in contact with the ground, prior to leaving the jump face. A real “scrub”

The pic of JoJo is not a scrub. His front wheel is not even turned in the correct direction. You naturally turn into the direction you scrub, anything else is a whip or butt whip.
