I think that it's safe to stay that Women's motocross has been doing nothing but progressing over the past year. From Ashley dethroning legendary Jessica Patterson, earning a full factory ride, and coming out swinging like a freight train each and every weekend, she is without a doubt bumping up the level these phenomenal girls, or should I say athletes, are pushing themselves each weekend.
After checking out the schedule of events at the upcoming Steel City national, it came to my attention that as listed, there will be only 1 moto for the WMA Pro Class. Thinking it was just a typo, I was dumbfounded when I realized that the time slot reserved for the WMA Pro Moto 2 was replaced by ATV Racing. Last time I checked, these Nationals are hosted by MX Sports.. not ATV-MX Sports. No offense to any quad riders out there, but you have your own Nationals.
This really makes me upset. I myself do not race in the pro class, however it definitely a goal that I would love to achieve. Hearing about this made me second guess that dream. People aren't pushing for a change concerning this 1 moto issue, and if it is not corrected, it's going to happen more often. Many think that problems like this may lead up to causing the WMA to separate from the Men's nationals.
Unfortunately that would cause a chain reaction. That would result in the WMA getting less publicity. As much as I absolutely love watching the pro girls race, I can guarantee they would not get half the crowd the men get if it wasn't for them being on the tour.
It's bad enough that the girls aren't getting motos nearly as long as the men's. I think that the WMA class should be getting 2 20 minute motos each race, at least. It's also pretty rough that the WMA only races at a fraction of the tracks the men race at.
I wrote an email to Mx Sports but have yet to receive a response, but I assumed that would happen. Does anyone else agree with me that this is bogus?

If it was still a 2 day event, the girls would get in their full motos that they rightfully deserve.
I don't think Chad would be very pleased if his 2nd moto got cut for a bunch of quads, now would he? It isn't any different for women, and it should not be.
if you want to see some skin go to a strip club. i want to see the women ride 2 30 + 2 lap motos.
Wow, that takes balls to complain..or actually I guess it doesn't.
There should NEVER be a complaint from any WMA girls, if they are not happy with what they have been supported with this year, perhaps they hold their own series and see who shows up?
MX has always prided itself as a family sport. Women seeing women perform well encourages them to participate. That's a good way to grow the sport.
I watched the women at Freestone and it was good racing at the front. The competition needs to get deeper, but it will grow and get stronger if given the chance.
Pit Row
Look at it this way, if you could do everything in one day that used to take you two days, why would you go back to two?
And let me say this, I love the women riders. I think they are awesome. But honestly, if they didn't race, few would notice. They are not the draw. The guys are. No one can deny that. Again, not taking anything away from them as riders/racers/people but they aren't the show.
Now, as long as they are part of the show, I agree, they should get two motos. That is motocross.
And Matthes, you have issues.
They seem pressed for time without them.

But if you succeed from the men's nationals you will lose the exposure of the races......think WNBA. I think having the women race is a good thing but there won't be an audience w/o a nat race to attract the fans. We like to see the WMA races but I doubt you'd get a draw for an audience w/o it. Not trying to be sexist but w/o being a program of the AMA mens nats I doubt you'd be able to score any exposure unless it was already there. I for one enjoyed watching the womens moto's between races but their own program off the beaten path I really don't think you'd get much of an audience, maybe talk to DC and see what he has to say before you try to succeed (looked it up for spelling and definition) from the "union" ...LOL
Regardless we still or i still want to see you ladies out there
Succeed- means to prosper, flourish, thrive.
Secede- to withdraw formally from membership in a group, organization;break off one's connection with others.
Yer dickshinairy is skru'd up.
I don't enjoy watching the Women's MX motos on TV. In fact, I believe the WMA-MX should exist as a separate series. I feel the same way about 250 2 Stroke races at the nationals; they should exist maybe as a separate series, or don't have the race at all at the nationals.
As talented as the points leader is, and Jessica Patterson, many fans at home and at the nationals aren't all that interested in watching 2 motos of WMA racing. Also, the rest of the pack is just too slow to make it interesting to watch.
Overall, I consider the WMA a side-show to the main 250 / 450 motos of the day and would ultimately like to see it removed from the program and exist as a separate series for the women.
It doesn't get any more brutally honest than that. I don't believe a womens series could support itself.
