He's doing it as a privateer with some of his team's parts. But on a 450F that shouldn't be a huge disadvantage against the factory riders.

I reckon one heat in top 5 and one top 10. He's a fighter so expect him to make a late charge.

I'm with Paul MD on this one: According to the AMA official I spoke with, when they tore #463 down after the race (he was in a random lot of six 450 riders, along with Reed, Grant, J-Law, Hahn and Browne, plus six 250 guys) they found Clement's engine to be "bone stock." He got it through Dirt Lab and Ryan Clark, who is a top-shelf guy all-around. He was on a decent bike, but a mostly stock one.

Don't forget that Tedesco never made it out of the second turn without crashing in either moto, and Millsaps went down with him in the first moto. At the end of the first lap, Millsaps was 36th, Tedesco 38th. It's hard to compare them when that happens, just as Clement went down a bunch of times in the second moto.

”To ride in the US for the first time was really a big thing for me so it was very cool to be on the podium! Racing in Washougal was a great experience, and the weather was very hot but I felt quite strong actually. Away from the bike it was also a little bit stressful and overall the result coud have been better. We had quite a lot of trouble with setting up the bike and I had some bad luck in the second moto. Still I wanted to continue after the crash I had, but I suffered some technical problems and couldn’t push like I wanted to. I know I can do more when I arrive better prepared.”

If he was on the bike he raced at the GPs he may ahve won! imnpressive ride from Desalle its shows the depth of the GPs right now

Would stewart have went to a GP on a borrowed stock bike with suspenaion and exhaust in a private yamaha team? I dont think so.

Well, guys to clear up speculation Clement requested a stock based engine ( as he rides in the GP's) So he had a freshly rebuilt motor with his requested parts, not a clapped out practice bike. And by quite a lot of trouble setting up the bike I think you will find that Clement means building the bike Friday before tech as this was a last minute deal to get a Bike from our shop in Phoenix to Washougal. I had to ship the Motor in a cooler and bring the Frame, swingarm, wheels, airbox, and radiators in Gear bags and boxes on the plane.
The bike was built 30 minutes before Tech inspection closed on Friday afternoon, leaving no time for Clement to ride before Saturday Mornings timed Qualifiers. Which he took the fastest time....
Could the bike have been better? Of course, but with a weeks notice, and no seat time on the bike, I think it showed Clements and our determination to be on the Podium. It should be noted that no other Teams took the opportunity to work with this fast GP rider. We were torn down by AMA tech at the end of the moto's on Bore & Stroke which were found to be stock. I know the hard work and effort it took to Make it all happen.

Pretty cool Clement rode a stock engine. Says a lot about the 450. I know there are people that needs big bore to manage their riding. LMAO!

Fair enough, thanks for the added info. Didnt we all know more than a week out before the event he would be there? I am assuming he wouldnt commit to a race without first securing a ride. At any rate you did a first class job backing him. Dont mind Nerd, his middle name is dik.

Thanks to everyone for your posting and contribution to this topic. Jesse and I both stand by the fact that we put every effort into making Clement as comfortable as we could given our lead time and resources. We had just over one week to put this effort together and Jesse, Jim Fiolek, Luke Frye, Scott Gilly (Factory FX), Kevin Fleming (FX), Tyler Vrba, Robbie Feder, Steven Stultz and many other people were instrumental in making this a reality.

To reiterate, we are very pleased with Clement and his accomplishments. He and his father were a pleasure to work with and we wish him all the best in the the remaining GP rounds.

I'm pretty impressed by Desalle, It's not that easy switching bikes even if they're set up similar its not the same. He got hit pretty hard from the side in the 2nd moto start, otherwise he would've had another great finish.

Desalle was impressive the first moto. What I noticed was that he seemed to ride a gear taller than everyone else, much like Pourcel does. At Washougal, where traction is hard to come by, that riding style really pays off. A stock 450 engine isn't a detriment at Washougal either, for the same reason.
