Seems like the whole damn moto industry are a bunch of insecure enablers. It's such a mystery to me why more people don't speak out against it. HGH dominates this sport yet there's some unspoken taboo against making any mention of it. Why is this so? Why don't we just call a spade a spade.

PJ Larsen is a Goddamm cheater ("I take miracle healer, I'm not the only one that heals like that so that's a good way to put it." http://www.allisports.com/videos/racer-x-washougal-pre-show at 1:19), and when he admitted it to Weege it was just laughed off. Why is this crap not taken more seriously? We are feeding our children hormones without knowing the future of their effects, all for the sake of entertainment. Do we want a bunch of Brock fucking Lesners racing around our tracks or do we want legit athletes with ethical integrity!?

I haven't read the rulebook in a while. Is HGH mentioned in there as being banned?

According to the World Anti-Doping Agency it's doping, and FIM via The International Medical Panel (CMI) says "The CMI ensures the application of the World Anti-Doping Code adopted by the World Anti-Doping Agency."

And AMA goes under "affiliate" the FIM no? Does that means FIM rules AMA?

About hGH. Seems a bit shitty people are doing it?

Q&A: Human Growth Hormone Testing

(Read also the special feature on hGH research and detection from Play True - Issue 2 – 2007)

What is hGH?

Human growth hormone (hGH) is a hormone that is synthesized and secreted by cells in the anterior pituitary gland located at the base of the brain.

hGH is known to act on many aspects of cellular metabolism and is also necessary for skeletal growth in humans.

The major role of hGH in body growth is to stimulate the liver and other tissues to secrete insulin like growth factor (IGF-1). IGF-1 stimulates production of cartilage cells, resulting in bone growth and also plays a key role in muscle and organ growth.

hGH is prohibited both in- and out-of-competition under the World Anti-Doping Agency’s (WADA) List of Prohibited Substances and Methods.

What are the side effects of hGH abuse?

Commonly reported side effects for hGH abuse are: diabetes in prone individuals; worsening of cardiovascular diseases; muscle, joint and bone pain; hypertension and cardiac deficiency; abnormal growth of organs; accelerated osteoarthritis.

In untreated acromegalic individuals (known for pathological over-production of hGH), many of the symptoms described above are observed and life expectancy is known to be significantly reduced.

Because of the role that hGH plays in stimulating IGF-1 secretion, excessive use of hGH may also lead to metabolic dysfunction, including glucose intolerance and other side effects associated with excess levels of IGF-1.

Does a test for hGH exist?

A test for hGH was first introduced at the 2004 Summer Olympic Games in Athens, Greece. The test to detect hGH abuse is a blood test.

Is the hGH test reliable?

The current test is reliable.

Another test, in its final development stage, will be combined with the current test to further enhance the detection window for hGH abuse.

The concepts and development of both hGH tests have been systematically reviewed by international independent experts in such fields as hGH, endocrinology, immunoassay, analytical chemistry, etc. In addition, these tests are the outcome of nearly US$6 million in research over the course of more than 10 years.

Research was initiated by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the European Union, and then taken over by WADA when it was created and had adopted scientific research as one of its priority activities.

Why has there been only a limited implementation of the current hGH test?

The current test is based on the blood matrix and was initially implemented on a limited scale to a number of the WADA-accredited anti-doping laboratories worldwide.

The antibodies used for the current tests were initially produced in a research environment. The production of antibodies in a research environment is characteristically small.

Industrial production of the anti-bodies was the following step for the widespread implementation of the hGH test.

When will the industrial production be ready?

It is ready.

Efforts made by WADA for widespread production of antibodies needed for hGH detection were slowed following the take-over if the company with which WADA had an agreement for the development of these antibodies, and the decision made by the company’s new management in 2006 to stop its cooperation with WADA.

WADA subsequently found a new partner for the large scale production and distribution of antibodies kits.

The kits have now been validated, and mass production of the kits has started.

Why have there been no positive cases for hGH so far?

The test was introduced at the Athens Olympic Games in 2004 and other major sport events. However, because hGH is often taken by doping athletes in the off-season to optimize performance, the test is most effective when implemented in a no-advance-notice out-of-competition strategy.

Widespread implementation of the test may change these statistics.

Is a urine test for hGH likely to be developed?

According to the majority of international experts, the blood matrix is the most suitable matrix for the detection of hGH.

hGH in urine is found in extremely small quantities (less than 1% than that found in blood).

WADA is collaborating with research teams to explore the development of urine-based detection methods for hGH.

Can blood samples be stored?

Freezing liquid fraction of blood (serum or plasma) is a scientifically acceptable solution that allows for the preservation of substances in samples for future testing and detection.

Research has shown that hGH is very stable in frozen serum or plasma.

WADA encourages anti-doping organizations under the World Anti-Doping Code to store blood samples when relevant.

Storing serum or plasma for future testing has a significant deterrent effect.

The World Anti-Doping Code makes it possible to open a disciplinary proceeding within eight years from the date an anti-doping rule violation occurred.

So "miracle healer" has changed from a joke nickname that Weigandt used for Larsen in the pre-show into some sort of illegal banned substance?

Nerd, the rule book isn't an ethical book.

Dr, the info is much appreciated. It has a lot of food for thought as I now cut the grass in 35 degree heat.

Oz, with the level if comp, the drive to win, the willingness to "do anything", the fact that most others are doing it, and the fact that riders overcome injuries at an exceptional rate (comming off a 3-6 month injury in less than six weeks) without drug testing and refer to their miraculous healing in terms of of "a miracle" strongly indicates you are mistaken.

Bobby, awarness is where all change begins... start as many PED threads as you do Alessi threads and I'm sure a lot more brains will begin to take notice. And if you feel like flying off the handle, drop names... Imagine if PJ Larsen was shunned as much as JLaw?? Shit would change. Maybe we just need to shun a few riders, take a few scapegoats, and the future of our children (and moto) may be brighter. I really believe that.

Guy B, there is nothing random here... been going on for a while, if you can't see it then that's just proof of what I was saying... we gotta take our heads outta the sand or we just may as well give 4 yr olds HGH cause then they'll be to moto what Lesner is to MMA: disgracfull and unbeatable champions.

DownSouth, read between the lines, consider the philosophy of sports ethics and contemplate what I've said in light of DocSweden's quality information.

It seemed obvious on the pre-show that he was not admitting to taking HGH, just joking around about the speed of healing.

It is interesting though, what little bit I know about it, it would absolutely be the PED to use in mx/sx. Lets the body heal and recover faster, which would allow you to come back lighting quick from injuries and really tough races. Not sure it htat means everyone is doing it, but it would sure be the way to go if they were doing it.

Where is ractime when you need him?!?!

For me, I heard what I heard, & it wasn't what & how you think it was.
Also, PJ isn't on here to defend himself, but I am, & I'm not denying anything
at all. I wouldn't accuse any unless I saw he or she take it right in front of me.
I've been in this for most of my life, & sure it may occur, but I've never ever seen it.
That's the honest truth.

I'll admit it, hell yea I took PEDS when I was racing. I went from a 125 pound kid that couldnt hold on after 20 minutes, to a 140 pound kid that was just as fast after 40 minutes.

I was getting beat by guys who were stronger then me, not faster, I worked my ass off and couldnt get any stonger, so I took a different route. I dont regret it at all, I regret quiting to spite my dad, but not PEDs.

You cant judge anyone for taking PEDs until you line up and NEED to do good in order to make a living.

What? You can't judge someone for taking PED's? Are you serious? So, cheating is cool with you? I guess we can't judge a cheater...

Have you ever had to compete to earn a living? If yout answer is no, then you cant say what you would or wouldnt do.

PEDS dont add any speed to your game, you either can go fast or you cant, its that simple.

If what you are saying is true... and you really took whatever you took...

then you were cheating since you did not have the ability, some would say will and desire, to get in shape enough to where you could compete. Sure, it doesn't make you faster directly but it allowed you to perform at a level where you were unable to before.

Regardless, so, what living were you earning while taking whatever it is you took? What did you take?

And since you were too immature to keep yourself from "quiting to spite my dad," maybe your opinion on the matter shouldn't count? Maybe you are a little biased and trying to make yourself feel better for being a cheater?

I believe it was Pingree a year back or so who said something along the lines of....
Some riders have/are used/using HGH...he then went on and said he has seen it with his own eyes.
Now Ping has no reason to make something like that up.
However, making a post that PJ is using them ,is a bit silly, unless you have seen it with your own eyes.

Does being bulkier help in moto? How do you think HGH kind McGwire would work on a 450?
