1980 Honda CR80

Friend had one of these had yz80 those old silencers weren't rebuildabled.
I see these lil guys forsale often in the Portland Oregon area. I've ridden the 82 as well which is still the like same engine generation.

That one does look pretty original

Nice CR! I made another steel silencer repackable. I ground the rear edge so the the center wound seperate from back. Then I sliced the rear portion off. A 1/2" strip of sheet metal was formed around the cone and tack welded on one side. A couple a sheet metal screws then held the tail cone on. I use high tech yellow fiberglass from my scraps for house to pack it.

So cool you found one in such original condition....it brings back great childhood memories! I say spend the $100 and make it look like new again! I started on a '74 Honda MR-50, then graduated up to a '78 XR-75. During that time, I got to ride me friends '78 RM-80 and new at that moment I needed a two-stroke. I was a Honda kid, and was so bummed that they did not make a two-stroke 80cc race bike back then and really didn't want to buy a RM, YZ or KX. Then in 1980 they came out with the CR-80R! I was so excited and worked my tail off to get the money to buy one!

The CR80 was so much faster than my XR-75 and it ended up being the bike I raced my first motocross race on. I spent countless hours with a shovel, wheelbarrow, and sweat building a track in my parents yard, and spent a good part of my summer busting out laps dreaming I was Johnny O'Mara on my 1980 CR80! Great times that I wouldn't trade for anything!

The rear fenders for the 80-81 are damn near impossible to find! The OEM front fenders from some other Honda models will fit and are the correct red, and are available now and then. You may have already found out, but the DC Plastics rear fender is 2-3" too short (from the original) and the fitment is def lacking, as well as the color - it may be your only option tho. Really hard to find an original that is not ruined - those bikes hit really hard and went over backwards with a small kid on them...even a lot of adults got surprised!

I had one back the and have one now in the shed.
I grew out of it pretty quickly

Nice stadium plate! I had one also in 91-93 but I didn't like, wanted a modern bike
