Technically anyone with the funds can line up at an MXGP, even when you’re no where close to being fast enough (like we see in the overseas races).

It however does say that US teams actually give promising amateurs a chance (and probably a much better pay?) instead of wanting a guy and a stack of cash.

I agree and that’s part of the point I was trying to make. With it all being domesticated you can fill the gate with guys that are fast enough to be there. I feel like the guy I was quoting was saying the most of the GP riders are clearly better simply because they are on that circuit.

Easy tiger, Good ride today but these moto scores in Europe don't suggest future world champ:

2022: MX2 - 22, 10, 13, 23, 13, 10

2021-2022: EMX250 - 19, 22, 20, 13, 8, 10, 8, 7, 23, 14, 10, 10, 11, 10, 7, 7, 38, 2
They are his finishes. The 20's and high numbers could be crash outs.

What were his best lap times like in comparison to top 3 in EMX?

I went with him and it was awesome rooting him on. Very solid day. Really hurts when other riders say it takes five or six rounds to get used to a bike

And yet none of those got the chance to ride that Star Bike , and they gave it to a guy most of you had never heard of, who has had one good ride i can recall here.

Anyone can ride a GP as long as you rock up and pay the money.

Both him and Talviku are there because they cant get interest from the proper teams in europe.

To be fair to Talviku, he signed with the team he has , to get some nationals in, as they are doing those instead of GP's

PhilG… I wish you knew what you were talking about but you have no idea at all. I’ve seen multiple comments of negativity
towards Guillem and no respect towards him from yourself. He rocked up to Budd creek a track he has never ridden with only 5 times on the bike and pulls a 6th and 13th for 9th overall. Just wait and see what happens in 2023 with him in the GP Paddock…

You just made my point for me.

Based on what he did so far in Europe, and i watch ALL the races, he had one good finish in Lommel in EMX , and the rest of the races have been typical EMX.. all over the place, as its a tight series, guys can go 2-9 , and be on the podium.

If you had said to me a week ago that an EMX guy was going to Star, he wouldnt have been in my top 10 guesses.

And yet he can rock up at a National and finish 9th..

Yeah because the proper teams in Europe prefer to hire someone that brings cash. He didn't have a ride going into the year because others outpaid him plain and simple. He has great rides lined up for next year

But if you are good enough, surely you should have backers that see that ?

Iguess we shall see, one of us will be looking for this thread at some point.

And i hope he does well, but nothing so far shows me he will be better than the likes of Pootjes or Hsu.

No not really. Many of people deserve shots more than Ivo Monticelli, but he brings a lot of money to teams and that is what the teams want. Everts hasn’t really done anything mega up until just recently with a few fourth place finishes, but he brings the name to the teams and look, now he will be factory next year. Money will buy you anything unless you are literally top 3 speed over there

Mxgp depth isn’t as good as ama depth this year so very weird flex. The top mxgp guys would do well here but 11-20(can’t do much more than 20 because y’all don’t get much over that) isn’t good.

But if you are seriously good, how can you not find backers..

I dont disagree with your premise that speed should trump all, but teams dont run on fresh air... and as a rider, if you cant garner enough personal sponsors to believe in you, why should a team take a chance, unless you are one of the chosen few.

As of now, Farres hasnt done enough here for teams to have looked at him for 2022.. he hasnt had a stand out season, and yet apparently for 2023 he will be a threat in MX2.. if he is, great, we need good guys coming though, but as of today, he isnt the next Prado, based on what the results show.

You could also say the same about Vialle, he wasnt a stellar EMX rider but look at him now, he looks like being a 2 time champion soon.

Until you have results to back up 'promise' its just that , 'promise'.. and there is a long list of guys who have fallen by the wayside in the past few seasons.

If he does the next few rounds and does the same, it shows where EMX level really is against AMA 250.

Phil. It also has a bit to do from which region you are. Spain is not the country with the most wealth. He had financial support in EMX125 from the Spanish federation. Braceras was chosen to be on VRT (if i’m correct) and Farres was directed to F4E. They had limited budget and he had some small lingering injuries. Try to compete on a stock bike against previous years’ semi-factory bikes and be competitive? He was competitive but starts were really messing things up from him. I think it is promising to have multiple rides from 30-35 to 10th, but it won’t give you much broadcast.

Raths stepped up as much as they could. They are a small team but they have a decent engine package as far as I know. You immediately saw the progression in his results and leading the ADAC youngster cup is no joke.

Back to region where you come from.. I know a few Dutch riders that have a group of entrepeneurs that will all invest 1-5k per year into them, with a result of 50-75k in total to buy themselves in for a year of EMX250. These kids get the first choice because they bring money. Are they better then Guillem? Hell no. They just have better connections. I’ve heard some stories how he hopped on the Star bike and impressed them. They won’t let you race that bike just for fun.

So he's got a couple of P10's in MX2 and a P9 in AMA 250 outdoor... Seems pretty close to me. What makes it tougher in AMA is if you have a first lap incident, you drop to 38th, not 26th. Those in the know, know what that means.

I think I'd rather start 38th at Ironman than 26th at St Jean or Teutschenthal Whistling

His average moto finish in MX2 is 15th. He best moto finish is 10th. His best GP was 12th overall.

He just went 6th and 13th for 9th overall at Budds. Not bad for this tougher series...

A little like Rick Elzinga who just won the EMX250 title and went 29-31 and 17-16 in the AMA...

I'm not sure about disagree... He literally said the racing over here "is on a different level". He did say the tracks are wider and easier to pass.

But hey, it comes down to 19 on the line or 40 on the line... You fall in turn 1 at a GP and you're still in the points when you pick your bike up. Wink
