Long time lurker.. Hello Vital Smile Need some assistance here.

So.. I can't hang onto this bike to save my life. I have tried a few different things but really have not found any solution. After about 14-18 minutes, I am completely roached and have to pull off because my hands are blowing off the bars or my arms are fatigued beyond safety. The answer is obviously to hang on with my legs, but HOW? So, I'm hoping some other gasgas owners can share their thoughts. It seems like the bike just funnels my legs back off of it with no good contact patch. It's like it's made of ice.

I get bruises right where my leg contacts the bike in the pictured area, and that's the only place I have for grip really. Do you see how the seat is nearly a half inch away from the rad shroud? not making it easy. I do not wear knee braces, I prefer some stout guards that don't interfere much. "Fitness" is no problem at all. I train 6/week and can get on fine with other bikes I've had. Same with technique, I'm no textbook but it's good and improving. I've played around with grip and even made custom templates, but it's not really the silver bullet. Aside from making my bike look like a 7 year old attached it with grip tape, I'm kind of out of ideas besides Stegz Pegz or a guts wing seat (goofy alert x2). I'm afraid that if I use Stegz that I'll become dependent on them.

Right and Left Side Grip Regions

Pretty big protrusion. The seat is not even a factor in leg grip.

The result. Bruising is deep every time I ride. The 'R' indicates right side.

I see your logic, but I think that's moving in the wrong direction. This thing is an absolute rocket though lol, especially with the stock 'restrictions' removed.

I cut foam inserts and put them under the seat cover. Two on each side to make the seat as wide as plastic below and one on the back to make a kind of step up seat.

I have no idea what kind of foam to use. What did you go with?

You might try the Acerbis frame guard

I have tried a buddies bike with them and the only thing they really do is contact the foot portion of the boot. I may swap them onto mine and give it a go again.

Do you have them? are they thick on the sides? I really prefer some hard shell protection to prevent my knees from hitting the bars in fast rough corners, which hurts like crazy. I am running the ones here, but I'm getting ready for some new ones:

The TP199 have been on my radar a while.

Funny you say that as I actually noticed this with my 350, I seem to be gripping solely with my boots on the frame, so I'm glad it's not just me 🤣 Mine's the fatter, wider, older gen though as I had a few business expenses when I sold my Husky and had to go back a generation.

Weirdly I didn't notice this at all on said husky previously, it had plenty to keep hold of. Is this just a "getting used to it" thing? I wouldn't say it's a huge problem and it does still feel pretty direct and stable gripping it low down.

Quick tip from changing the leg rest angle on bucket seats in the past and getting a cheap kneeling pad for the workshop, upholstery shops usually have old bits or offcuts of decent, dense foam for super cheap or free 👍

I’d highly recommend the wing seat. Every guy 6 foot plus I know that’s used it on an Austrian bike loved it. Gives you something to hang onto since your knees are sort of above the seat.

Well I'm open to technique criticism and pointers. I have never even gotten a whiff of wearing out a set of boot soles. I do not dig my feet in super hard because I'm really active with them while racing so I guess, by default, I have focused more on gripping with my knees and upper calves.
It doesn't really matter anyways because theres nowhere to grip this bike anyways lolol. In the past though, especially on the Japanese bikes with thicker frames and airboxes, it's like an extension of your body. I hope that makes sense. I'm going to insert some stuff in there as Greg mentioned.

Now, what about the material moving around inside the seat? Does it stay put? did you use a little dab of glue?

+1 here for the GUTS winged seat. Looks a little odd at first but it works. Added that with the Acerbis frame guards and gave me plenty of contact point on my ktm 350

Very interesting. Looking at all of them again I'm sold, not sure what was deterring me before..

Sort of outside the scope of discussion, but do you have any idea what kind of lifespan they have? My current guts cover is still very grippy, but its getting some smooth spots after about 8 hours. Much more aggressive on seats than 'normal'.

Okay that's awesome to know. Thanks for the tip. I think I'm gonna try it. Did you order direct from GUTS?

Would Stegz Pegs with TWO black stoppers help?
My biggest concern with the Stegz is that they cause a bad habit to form. Have you used them for any extended period?

I do the same as Greg. I buy a Factory Effex stick on seat hump. I get it close with a big fillet knife and use a sander to get the shape I want.

I have the same bike as you and I'm 6'1. I literally have the same marks on my plastic too and run the same exact seat cover. I have the Acerbis frame guards and they seem to help. Being taller does make it a little more difficult to grip the bike with your legs but knee braces help. I'd give the Guts winged cover a shot.

Do the inserts stay put? I don't want them swimming around in there lol.

Go with the Guts Wing seat. It will help tremendously and who cares about the goon factor.

Nobody ever got called a goon by people they pass anyways, right? Going to order soon!

Is your head far enough forward during the attack position? Aiming to go with the bike rather then be pulled by it might help.
