Yepp..., Well My 2005 Crf450r, Had verrry similar problems.
I took mine into the shop and it needed a full top end., Piston Ring's valves Yeah the works...
Got mine back yesteray $1200, AUSD later, Turns out some Knob head Previous owner took the airbox, out of mine and where the airbox goes too the carby, was not sealed properly, so shit was being sucked into the Engine...., Eating the shit out of everthing.
Although my bike was the opposite and easier too kick, May Be somehthing to do with the Auto Decompression, My advice too you would be STOP, trying to start it their's obviously somehting wrong, Take it too your local Moto shop, where they can pull the Head off Etc, and have a look.
But be prepared too fork out the $$$, Just incase.
Let us know what's up with it! =)

Check the valve adjustment first. I can almost guarantee the intakes are way tight.

You said it's hard to kick. Did you mean, it's hard to push the kick lever down or it's hard to start with the kick lever?

If the lever is hard to push down (harder than normal) then you've got major issues.

If it just won't start and hard means, it takes a lot of kicking then it's valves. Check the clearance in the intakes. You can get new valves and a top end done in the $600 - $700 range if you look around hard enough.

well. it is hard to push down. i put a new spark plug in it and finally got it to start and then rode it for about an hour. it started to leak antifreeze out of the overflw
