He is not factory GasGas but after the week he had one KTM brand better give him a bike to race.

Also, can any 250A guy race the last 4 races or do they have to earn points to be able to race?

I believe anyone finishing in the top 20 in either pro sport class gains their pro license. I know that’s how it used to be can’t say for sure that it still is.

Curious how someone like Deegan gains points. Do you have to declare you are an A rider then race some amateur national stuff to gain the points/license? Next question, do the combines count as points towards pro license? I understand Deegan was a B rider so i assume no points. Would an A rider gain points at a combine event?
Sorry for the dumb questions but we never reached A level or lorettas at this house but we damn sure had a lot of fun trying which was all i wanted when we start racing them at 10 &12 years old.
Oh yeah spent a small fortune trying as well.
Now i get to do it all over with my grandson!!

Most A riders race pro-am races and earn points towards their pro license. I feel like Deegan would get a pass if he wanted to race the rest of the nationals.
I’ve had my pro card for about 5-6 years now so it may be a little different but when you first sign up for it you either meet the LL criteria, got the right amount of pro-am points, but there was a last option that basically used discretion stating they are good enough to be out there. Typically that involves someone in the industry vouching for them.

This was mentioned in Racerhead this week referring to Deegan:

He is planning on going straight to the A class when this race is over to gather as many pro-am points as possible, get in a minimum of five race results, and then if all goes according to plan, he wants to apply for his pro-am license and try to race in the Ironman National at the end of August.

That last option should work right? I mean common sense says he is fast enough not to be in peoples way out there. Surely he is faster than almost everyone on B practice on pro days or at least most of them.
How did Dungey and AC get theirs? I think the both started their pro careers in sx. Did they both do the rc road to sx thru arenacross? Im sure once you race sx a pro mx license isnt an issue?

The last option is what basically all the factory guys use if they skipped A class. You’re not going to tell Mitch Payton no when he has a guy in the am ranks ready to go pro haha

Deegan is going to do pro ams at amateur day at the next two nationals. A rider must have 5 A results to be considered for the discretionary approval. You can no longer go straight from B to pro no matter what Mitch wants

He will get it the right way of doing some smaller as
Class races, but every local area has people who get a reference and results of winning the local A class with 4 entries and get their pro card. Doesn’t take much if you want it

I guess I am confused re the outdoor pro nationals. I’ve seen local Southwick guys try to qualify for the Southwick National and not make it, but those guys aren’t top 10 in New England. Now New England is NESC, not AMA. do they just state they are an A rider here and their entry is accepted? Of course I’ve seen top New England guys give the factory guys a run at Southwick.

Edit: this post in no way means an 11th place New England A class racer is slow. Smile
