1974.5 CZ true "Falta" 400 - One of the best choices for 500cc Vintage class racer, in my opinion.

This one has a porcupine head, Magnum pipe, Michelin S-12s, Ohlins Shocks, Mikuni Carb, Air Assisted CZ Spring forks, Renthal bars, Plastic Tank and trick aluminum swingarm.

What a blast to ride. Had it on the starting line once or twice against the new bikes, the young riders had no idea what it was but told me that they loved to watch me kickstart it from the left and loved the sound of the big bore 2 stroke. One kid told me his grandpa would know what my bike was.....made me feel old, probably because I am old.

I've just found my 81 Maico 490, but I had 3 of those CZ 400s and My first choice for a vintage rebuilt racer

Yes it was! Also the site of my first moto in 72 with my Super Rat, which I looped out Jumpin over the 3rd turn on the oval, chasing race winner Leach? on a Green Streak and on that last lap. The first of many endos that led to my screen name (also note mud on the ass of my JT's)

Is the Type 514 one of the early '90's models? Sorry if it's a dumb question.

Love those long travel Curnutts.

Some years ago I was in Twenty Nine Palms while touring So Cal on a Buell street bike. I thought about looking up Curnutt's shop & saying hello, just because I always liked their products and appreciated the great customer service.

I decided they might not like some tourist wandering in off the street & disrupting their day, so instead I had lunch at the Denny's and moved on.

We used to get people stopping by the shop all the time which wasn't a big deal. We gave them the tour. Curnutt closed up back in the 80's except for the car shock stuff which he was doing himself. The mountain bike shocks were down in the LA area through Charlie Jr.

I had a 73 400 that I moved the shocks forward and laid down at that angle. Used Bilstien shocks , it worked really well for that point in time.

  Yeah, I took a couple of angles and made a channel, drilled shock mounting holes in them and welded them to  the frame. Think I had a half dozen holes to change the angle. Just married with no money, I couldn't afford to change springs or any fancy stuff like that for rebound etc.. Might have left it the second hole position ?  Picked 3 new in the crate CZ 400's off the dock in NYC with paperwork.. leftover 74's I believe.. Jivof carb, the whole bit.  Best wheelie bike I ever had.  Geared it down one tooth and played in the woods for a few years. Great hillclimber.. Really miss it now after 50 years. Don't miss the black and blue marks when it back kicked on me.. I remember the Curnutt shock name and the 5 inch travel.. WOW !  5 inches of travel  lol.. Couldn't afford them..
