2020 KTM 250SX, as these bikes do naturally, they level off so hard on the top end, and I'm sure porting, polishing, and whatever else guys do to cylinders nowadays could help out all over the power curve.

Looking for a reputable shop with some results, not really a guy with a dremel and a grinder (no disrespect to Mitch)

Currently located in Texas, but I imagine I have to ship it wherever it's gonna go. Any help is appreciated!

Tom Morgan has a good reputation. Had him do a 150 cylinder for me, but haven't installed/ridden yet.

Search Varner on this site for a nice horror story.

What carb and jetting are you running? Everyone with a 250 in the jetting thread in this forum says the Digger/AJ jetting really improves and extends the powerband. Maybe some jetting and power valve adjustment will get you where you want to be.

If you want a tuner that’s possible to get ahold of and communicates very well, definitely call Tom Morgan. My cylinder is currently with a different tuner and I’m already thinking I should have gone with someone else. I have a feeling I’ll just get my cylinder shipped back with no real jetting specs or anything

Forgot to add, Tom Morgan sent jetting specs, detailed instructions, troubleshooting info, AND a box of candy canes back with my cylinder and head (during Christmas season). What a thorough dude.

DBY motorsports in Pennsylvania best builder in my opinion he does all the 2stroke micro sprint and mx builds on the east coast does 4stroke also anything from stroking oem cranks to cylinder work also light weight billet cranks I suggest anyone to invest in if doing a bottom end big difference even if stay stock stroke the weight difference motor rotates so much smoother and better carry more speed threw the corners. Also have BAM (bob albright motors) who does amazing work also.

I would start with a squish measurement, as they are pretty conservative from the factory, get head cut to tighten squish, rejet as per the jetting thread, FmF factory pipe & silencer for longer top end pull… The cylinder porting layout is pretty good from the factory….another vote for TMR if you must have the cylinder reworked…

Another vote for Tom Morgan. Did an 02 CR250 for me that absolutely ripped. As said before, came with tuning manual and Tom was always available for questions and advice. Lots of “this pipe will do “x” to the power, these reeds will do “y”, etc. great guy who knows his stuff. Beautiful work too.

100% Tom Morgan. He’s done a dozen engines for me after I tried a few others that are also “big names “. Tom sends a plethora of info with his work to make sure you get the most out of the improvements he’s done. He’ll make the power where you want it and it will be a rocket.

HOWEVER, he notified me this past week to hold up on sending my next 2 Yamaha projects we had been talking about the last couple of months. He had Covid and also had surgery this spring that has got him a bit backed up. Pro move , as those “other guys” would just tell you to send your stuff and sit on it for months and months while you get more pissed by the day.

My suggestion is to call or shoot him an email to check his timeframe for what you want done. My next 2 were pretty extensive so maybe a quick cylinder/head job won’t be a long wait…. He always responds

I second this. On my 17 husky i had the head cut(forgot the squish number) put on a keihin carb and the pro circuit 304(long one not shorty). Dropped a tooth on the rear sprocket. Thing absolutely ripped, hit hard but not too much on the bottom and pulled great. Never had the cylinder touched.

If you are in Texas, check with Trick Engineering. I don't think he does motor mods but that guy definitely knows his stuff and would probably be able to recommend a good local builder.
