That does not mean Americans should not be upset because as others have mentioned a good portion of the higher cost of fuel is/was 100% preventable. Bad policies still produce bad outcomes, but most people can't connect those dots which is part of why we are in the spot we are in today.

So yes, the Tar Sands can be converted to gasoline, just that it's not cheap to do. The plan all along was to export most of the keystone oil (tar sands) because of that cost and use crude for our own use. At one point we were exporting 8.4 million barrels of crude and refined fuels every day.
Also, Alberta has the capacity to ship another 200,000 to 400,000 barrels per day of crude. Why aren't we buying it?
Hundreds of pads in that area..they were hauling oil out all day.
