After my mom passed away, my dad (they were married nearly 50 years) rode the entire Outdoor National schedule a few years ago. He did it on his BMW RT1200. Lots of cool stories from that trip.

Have fun!

I'll be up at Hangtown tomorrow to Saturday. Van camping. Thursday night there's an event and Friday Night is the camp fire Legends thing.

One thing that might make your trip more comfortable is, a hammock and tarp setup instead of a tent.
She and I spend a lot of time hiking, and sleeping outdoors.
Haven't slept on the ground in over 11 years.
Way too old for that shit any longer.

We've had ours custom made.
But any outdoor outfitter these days has a full line of quality gear in stock.

And on long road trips, you can save on hotels by just driving off in the middle of nowhere to set up and spend the night for free.

I just string it tighter to have less sag.
Allows me to sleep about 3/4's on my side.
Still very very comfortable.
I'm a side sleeper as well.

It's easy on your back.
No pressure point soreness from sleeping on a pad, on the ground.

Get one with a bug net, then you can actually use it in Kansas as well!

Damn that sounds cool. I'm in my little old Mazda 3. I have the rest of the trip sorted between military campgrounds and hotels. I guess the Vitards thought I was either an axe murderer or Cousin Eddie. If the shoe was on the other foot...I might feel the same. It's worked out good so far.
Haha trust me dude once we have the property/house all done you're more than welcome to come stay with us. BBQ, campfire, all the goodies. My wife and I already began packing up this week. When I'm not working I'm either packing or going out to the property. I'm going to post some new pics in the Non-Moto thread in a few minutes I took last weekend of the foundation/plumbing getting set up. I'm super happy to see you're having a great time bro, when you come stay over maybe I'll finally be willing to go back out to Hangtown again to watch.

BTW - if you're looking for a good restaurant near the track there's a place called "Lazydog" in Folsom on East Bidwell Street just 5 minutes from Hangtown. Lots of great stuff on the menu but the fish n chips are killer, that's usually my go-to. If you just want a good ol' fashioned burger there's an "In n Out" across the street. That place always has a line of cars in the drive thru.

Awesome bud. I have dealt with new construction and completely understand how hectic it is. And then there's the warranty callbacks. I love me some fish and chips so that place is a must. I am in a motel Fri/sat for convenience sake. Camping has been cool but us old spoiled guys need some a/c now and again.

I just posted some pics up in non-moto.

Yeah getting supplies has been a bitch but luckily the lumber quote we got was much less than we expected. Getting all the permits and dealing with the fire chief was a pain in the ass but that's all over now so everything moving forward should feel gravy.

The temps are going to drop a lot this weekend, there's even a chance of rain Saturday/Sunday. I doubt it will but at least it won't be miserable out there. Going to take advantage of this and get a lot of work done this weekend.

Don't lie to me. I trusted the forecast at Pala. When the clouds went away and the fog burned off...I fried like a piece of bacon. Peeling like a snake...I'm sure folks think I'm some kinda meth head.

LOL the crazy thing about Hangtown is every year since I was a kid it's either balls hot or raining like hell. When I was racing 85's/Supermini I always did the amateur race on Friday then got invited to race during intermission on pro day (back when the pro's practiced Saturdays, race on Sundays) and knew either way I was going to be miserable. Either the track was going to be beat to shit and borderline getting heat stroke or plowing through the slop and maybe blowing an engine.

It really should be a great weekend, upper 70's with some cloud cover Sat/Sun.

The temps should be great but I'm still greasing down in sunscreen.

Pulled into Rancho Cordova motel. Met a bunch of young kids, Jordan Jarvis among them. I've talked them out of a balcony leap into the pool...for the moment. Should be a fun night.

Hey plow boy I just wanted to give you a bit of advice for those long drives

Please do make sure to stop every couple hours and take a short walk and move around. I would hate to see you run into blood clotting issues when making a long haul to the next stop. It may even be a good idea to elevate your legs for a little while after you reach your destination!

Honestly, 2 hours is all my old bladder and ass can take. I usually gas up and walk around a bit.
