Cool. I care for 5 albino snappers that can't survive in the wild. It's turtle egg laying season so any turtle away from its water is a female looking for a good egg laying area.

Florida softshells too. Abalone ferox.

We ran across this snapping turtle this morning.

My son and I came across one crossing the road at camp . I grabbed a branch and provoked some strikes to show my son I wasn't kidding about what they're capable of.

How poisonous is that Funnel Web spider?
Australian funnel webs are among a small group of spiders whose venom can kill humans. However all 13 recorded deaths occurred before anti-venom was introduced in 1981.

Funnel web venom is lethal because it contains a type of neurotoxin called "delta-hexatoxin". This toxin can kill humans by attacking the nervous system, keeping nerves "turned on" and firing over and over again.

In severe cases the venom can cause muscles to go into spasm, blood pressure to drop dangerously, coma and organ failure, and ultimately death – sometimes within a few hours.

Scientists have long been puzzled by why these toxins are so deadly to humans, when we and other primates have never been funnel web prey or predator. Scientists were also perplexed as to why male funnel webs appeared to have much deadlier venom than females, and caused most human deaths.

Boom, I live right in the center of the USA, lol.
I'm about 40 mins from Oklahoma City to the east.

We have 40 acres, three big ponds. I have deer and turkeys, snakes, beavers, armadillos, and coyotes.
I have frogs bigger than both your hands put together. . .

I mow prolly 10 acres around the biggest pond, lots of bass and crappie fish....

Nirvana except for mowing and snakes.

Dang Piston Slap! I didn’t know you was an Okie too!?
Thats awesome to hear!
Did you make it out for the OKMX state round at AMP on Sunday?
I didn’t race but I rode the Africa Twin out and hung out with my buddy and his son that raced his 125.

My younger brother has 40 acres S/E of lake Thunderbird (near the old town of McCombe) and he has said the snake population seems to be larger than he has seen in recent years!
He has been dealing with Copperheads and Timber rattlers all spring long! The crazy Oklahoma weather hasn’t been any help either! 😎

Never saw a jackrabbit around here until around ten years ago. Now we got 'em everywhere. Have no idea how that works whenyou go from no sign of a species, to having that critter everywhere and thriving. (despite fire ants, hay production everywhere, and 'yotes)

Hey NorcalRR!
Not to hi-jack your inquiry, just try and answer since I am nearby to Piston Slap and also familiar with the snakes indigenous to here in the Land o’ the redneck! HaHa! 😆

We have two venomous species very common to central Oklahoma, the western Diamondback rattle snake, quite common across the middle & western part of the state, and timber rattlers are known to be in central and eastern Oklahoma, although I have not personally ever encountered a timber species.
We also have venomous copperhead snakes all across the state, and they can be quite troublesome as they can and will encroach on Neighborhoods & rural residences. My younger brother lives on 45 acres about 30 miles S/E of Okc, and he has found 3 or 4 good size copperheads right near his house, including a 3+ footer under his front porch last weekend!

Both these venomous snakes are common enough here that IF you venture out for outdoor activities in the spring/summer season it’s always a good idea to be
“snake aware” or risk a bite at your own peril!

Hopefully that is the info you were asking about?!

Hi Norcal! What motorick said, although I have not seen any rattlers at all. The issues I have are with copperhead, really agreessive snakes, and silent.

My farm where the beavers are has several huge rat snakes, but I don't bother them anymore. They like to bite too...lol.

My home is about 8 miles from the farm... while raking leaves last year around evergreens and a fence I came across about 8 copperhead about a foot long! I picked one up with leaves to put in a bag and was like, "what was that!?!" I was lots careful after that and killed 8.....I don't need them near kids... if it was in farm in the neck, I'd prolly leave them too.....

Wow! That's crazy! Now ur gonna have me looking for rattlers!

No, I didn't make it to the race, my racing days are done, too broke up and too much fun...

I pass by Trey Canards old place on Acme road, (I think it's treys.) about 2 mile north of I-40. Shawnee OK if you can find it on google... good looking sx track, hard to see now bc of foliage....

Have a great holiday.

Get a sturdy dog.
They can smell snakes from way off, and will alert.

I used to pass this big 12 foot Croc with my guests regularly in the saltwater behind my old house. She passed away not long ago of natural causes. Some show up right on the beach sometimes.
When I was a kid I used to paddle my surfboard with my fishing poles on my back way into the mangroves to my still favorite fishing holes and swim back at night. We average 3' deep around here so there is excellent wade fishing. Good times.

This doe wanted to attack us. Not sure why. She kept moving towards us and scratching the ground like a bull.

Wedge Tailed Eagles, second biggest bird of prey in the world
Got 3 of these big bastards around my area .. Often they'll float around over my backyard sometimes no more than 10-15 feet up, they'll also coast past super low to the ground I think to avoid getting hassled by the crows and magpies
