OK well heres my take on the Two Stroke Invitational beings my 'rider'/best friend raced it today and ended up second.

the field was WEAK, only the top 3 riders were jumping everything consistently.

There was supposed to be 30 enteries but ended up with something like 15, mos tof whom were goons! My guy is a fast 'A' rider, has raced LL's in the A class raced AX's and all of that. He's been riding a 2 stroke for the last two years again!

We built a bad ass RM250 this year. I'm hoping someone got pictures of it!

Haas who won is a local A rider and won all of his classes on amateur days up there. We go there last night, 4 laps of practice, 3 in the race...

I agree its kind of lame but it was cool for Colin to do... He's never raced in front of that many people and was stoked at all of the people around the track yelling and wacing towels.......

It would be cool if more good riders showed up and made it a race but all in all it was a good time!

Todd who got third also post on here once in a while, mxr102 or something to that effect!

Hey, I got thanked on a podium at a national, i'm happy!

It's a bad idea to begin with and it was put together to make a few people happy.

I agree...the push to force 4-strokes into our sports was a terrible idea. They really should change the rules and bring back the real race bikes...the 2-strokes.

MMMMMM! It was good but I have to agree with ya Breck. Brandon Haas was gone Then from there it was like a normal Iowa Race with Colin and I. I think Cory Keeney got 4th. Hey ask Colin about us bout hitting in mid air over the big new Double they put in b4 for the last big uphill. It was a good time though...

I hope you voted in the 2 vs 4 poll because the 4-strokes need all the help they can get.

They need to come up with a equal displacement on some type of HP ratio rather than displacement. Something like a 200 cc two stroke allowed in the 250F class and I have no problem with letting the 500 (including a non OEM like service bikes) in the 450 class.

My personal opinion would be that it would be short lived and most would end up on the thumpers but it would at least be apples to apples.

Also Colin was lined up just inside Jade Dungey, just before the card went up his brother, some Ryan kid, came over and was telling him smooth lines. Mud still on his face after just leaving the podium from his first moto win! I looked at them and go "oh now thats not fair...." Ryan just smiled....

I started right next to Jade to and heard the whole converstaion. He was just telling hm where it was a highway at through the sand whoops, and on some down hills. Things he should of seen on the parade lap... I gave Colin a big Woo Hoo over that jump and he gave me one back. It was fun as hell.

Sure. No prob. There are 2-stroke engines being developed that deliver about the same hp per cc. You could run the 4-strokes against those. But, note that the 2-stroke puts out about 50% more torque at all RPM, is lighter, and is less complex.

The thumper wouldn't stand a chance.

the race sucks ass....that's too bad too. instead of showcasing the 2 strokes it makes em look stupid.

The larger the displacement, the better the thumpers are going to fair. Just look at the last few years of 500cc GP races; the tractors were beating the pingers straight up. At that size, HP is simply not the issue, tractability is.

In the 250 class, the overly loud engines won't make as much power as the oil burners, but still have a broader spread of power and are easier to ride for 2 long motos. It'd be more equal than a dyno chart would suggest, imo.

Try that with 125cc machines, and the valve munchers won't stand a chance given the current technology being used. Move them to twin cylinders, with MotoGP technology, and it could be interesting. But given the cost, it's not likely to happen.

The issues with 4 strokes are noise and cost, both of which have detrimental effects on the long term survivability of dirt biking in general. And if that suffers greatly, MX/SX/FMX will go away.

In MotoGP the 500cc 2 strokes were competing against 990cc 4 strokes for 1 year and the 2 strokes only won a couple of races that season. I wouldn't call that straight up given the displacement disadvantage.

In racing usually even if your bike is lighter and a better handling machine you will not keep up if your straightaway speed is slower because the larger and heavier machines will block the ideal line in the turns and then walk you on the straights due to 2x the displacement. That is why the 2 strokes usually qualified faster but lost in the actual race.

Sorry but the 4 stroke 250 roadrace bikes just barely manage to keep up w/ the 125cc 2 strokes and that is their intended competition, if they don't blow up. Against a 250 2 stroke w/ 135 rwhp a 4 stroke 250cc has absolutely no chance. The 4 strokes are just too expensive to maintain for a fast amateur road racer that needs a lot of track time.

Someone needs to get Guy Cooper in on one of these races. Ive watched him ride his smoker a few times here recently and hes still got it.
