Talking to Deano on the Pulp show last night Steve brought up keyboard warriors like people don't respect what riders are doing. He says you don't get a 10 inch gash in your butt at your accounting or plumbing job.

I say that's a bunch of BS. Even the worst of "keyboard warriors" most likely ride and know exactly how gnarly these dudes are. I've not heard one single comment downplaying Deano's injury. The fact is most of us ride and most of us have been assaulted by their motorcycle even if it may have been at a much lower speed.

Lot's of keyboard warriors may think some rider should be doing better than they are but I never see someone downplaying how gnarly our sport is or how tough the riders are. We would be insulting ourselves. I do gnarly shit and so does Deano, he just does it faster and with more skill.

(I'm sure I'll get hammered for this but the reality is I'm sticking up for the average Vital poster, WTF is wrong with me?)

I get where you are coming from. I ride too and have been hurt numerous times. I'll bet there are a ton of guys on Vital that don't even ride.

No, that's my point. Most of us are core and ride or have ridden and give full respect to just how gnarly this sport is.

Most moto guys take pride that it is considered the toughest sport.

Keyboard warriors talk shit but they don't talk shit on these guys not being tough.

Seems like something a keyboard warrior would post.

I posted that as a way of sticking up for posters, some don't deserve it.

Hit your head a few times as well? That would explain things.

In case any of you are missing the context, if you are arguing with me you are in effect saying, "No McG, we are just as bad as Steve says we are. We are morons who have no sense at all."

I know Pulp Nation wants to dog anyone who seems to disagree with Steve but everyone is wrong some times. I know what he said because I obviously like the show and listen, I just disagree with him on this. We're not a bunch of idiots.

Seems like a strawman type of thing to say. Of course there are always "keyboard warriors" for everything but in this case, I don't think there are moto dudes who are saying anything bad about Dean or downplaying how that was a pretty crazy injury. You'll find very few MX enthusiasts who don't think the sport is dangerous, gnarly etc. But in this case, I think they are using strawman tactics for dramatic effect. That being said, bringing up other jobs is not relevant at all and not sure why that would even need brought up.

I think some of the animosity that might be perceived by pro riders from keyboard warriors is because most of us have been hurt riding dirt bikes, and when we see a pro rider, who gets paid to be there, gets free bikes, free parts, free travel, etc. etc. not trying or complaining...it doesn't sit well with most of us. The top guys, they get paid to get hurt...for most of us keyboard warriors, we pay out of our own pockets to get hurt.

For example.....I'm currently sitting here with two plates and 13 screws in my ankle from surgery a month and a half ago...from a race I paid to enter, on a bike I paid for myself, that I pay to maintain, for travel expenses that I paid for myself. So many of us pay to do this sport...because we love it...and I'll get right back on my bike as soon as I can....so we “get” injuries...in fact, for the top pros, we “get” injuries at a level they've never understood...like I said...they get paid to get hurt...we pay out of our own pockets to get hurt.

I don't get why these so called "keyboard warriors" are mentioned so much in moto areas. Moto guys are portrayed as these cool tough badasses and yet they seem to get worked up over little comments on the internet way easier than most other demographics imo. It seems so bizarre to me that these guys will block people on their social medias because they left a negative comment. Maybe the times have changed and I just notice it more in moto because I spend the most time around it but it still seems odd.

My profession is highly stressful with a disproportionately high occurrence of stress related illness, anxiety, substance abuse, and suicide. I risk a foot peg up the ass on the weekends for fun and to maintain sanity.

That being said I didn't listen to the podcast so I don't know the context of his comment.

I didn''t think there was animosity, maybe Steve was right. lol

Of course, we pay to get our asses kicked and they make tons of money to get their asses kicked but they get their asses kicked more than other sports and make less than other sports.

You think? I've always felt Vital has the most knowledge fans of the sport and dudes that not only ride but actually race. Of course there's some bad apples too but nothing is perfect. I had to check out from FB because all of the moto groups and moto pages on there have so many guys that you just know have never raced in their lives

The problem here is for every 1 keyboard asshat there is 99 other good fans, yet we focus on that one asshat. What is also annoying is those 99 good fans then get lumped in with the one asshat when generalized statements like this are made.

The best way, just ignore the ignorant comments, move on and focus on what's important.

I would guess that MX more than most sports/motorsports is driven more by participants and enthusiasts than casuals. People that don't ride simply do not care about the sport. It's not like Nascar or F1 where people who aren't racers are still tuning in. I think a good percentage of our sport's fans are people who race, ride to some degree. And that was why in my previous post I think Dean/Steve are just strawmanning for the drama. Because most of us know how easy it is to get hurt. And I think most of us respect the risk that the pro racers are taking. Sure there might be a small percentage of loudmouth idiots, but that is far from the majority.

I'm gonna say it. A little Steve goes a long way. I can only listen to him in short stints.
Bring on the hate keyboard warriors.

For the record - I grew up racing/riding MX so I know injuries. I don't moto anymore, but I do ADV off road.
Mad respect to the Pro riders for what they do week in and week out. The sport has gotten to the point that too many are getting injured....pros and amateurs alike.

Let the record show, Deano didn't say anything bad about fans at all.

Plus it's not like I'm totally shitting on Steve, I'm sure he gets enough dumb shit DM'ed to him that would drive the average person nuts.

I understand. But I was a just referencing that it's just so common these days for people to hear/read 1 negative comment and then feel the need to mention the "haters" or what have you, to enhance the story. I think the majority of the MX audience understands the risk involved and respects that.

Well said, that in a nutshell is the point of this thread.

Maybe someone needs to tell Matthes that we may not get a 10" gash in our butts at work...but it might happen on the weekend while we are paying to have fun with our friends...

Who needs to give who more respect? The guy that got the 10" gash while getting paid a ton of money and fame and notoriety...or the guy that could get the 10" gash while having fun on the weekend at their own expense?

I don't know what to tell you bro, try some reading comprehension. I'm not USA Today, I'm not going to write at a 6th grade level. The original point I made was that Steve went on a mini rant about "Keyboard Warriors" not understanding just how gnarly these dudes are. My point is most of us do participate in this sport at an admittedly much lower level, so we know exactly how gnarly guys like Deano are and that's why we love this sport so much. Every guy that rides dirt bikes or races watched Deano's crash and put themselves in his place and cringed a bit because they know it could happen to them.

TL;DR Sport is gnarly, Dudes that race are gnarly, no need to shit on supporters of the sport.
