I suppose that it’s time to switch to the new season.

Local intel suggests that the Seahawks are looking to upgrade at the QB position…..

Looks like they finally are changing the OT rules, but only in the post season. Both teams get to touch the ball.

Just saw this interesting article on the new contract for Kyler Murray. Sounds like the Cards are hedging their bets just a little bit?

Kyler Murray’s new contract has a homework clause
Posted by Mike Florio on July 25, 2022, 4:08 PM EDT

The Kyler Murray contract has become official. And it officially contains a term that one source with extensive knowledge of player contracts has deemed to be unprecedented.

The deal requires that Murray engage in at least four hours of “Independent Study” during each week of the season, from the Monday after training camp ends through the last game on the schedule, including any postseason games.

The contract defines “Independent Study” to include the study of “the material provided to him by the Club in order to prepare for the Club’s next upcoming game, including without limitation any such material provided via an iPad or other electronic device.” Time spent in mandatory meetings doesn’t count.

The contract specifically includes this sentence: “Player shall not receive any credit for Independent Study with respect to any time periods during which any material is displayed or played on an iPad or electronic device if (a) Player is not personally studying or watching the material while it is being displayed or played or (b) Player is engaged in any other activity that may distract his attention (for example, watching television, playing video games or browsing the internet) while such material is being displayed or played.”

A breach of this term counts as a default under the contract, which would jeopardize his guaranteed money.

It’s unclear how any of this will be enforced by the Cardinals, unless there’s a way to remotely monitor active interaction and engagement of the iPad. (Microsoft, which gives the league a ton of money for an exclusive Surface sponsorship deal, may not appreciate the use of the name of the Apple tablet.) The mere fact that the team reduced the term to writing suggests that the team has concerns about whether and to what extent Murray does sufficient homework.

He wouldn’t be the first player to rely excessively on natural skills, and to give short shrift to studying the playbook, the game plan, and film. He is perhaps the first, if not one of the only, to have a term like this in his contract.

Bottom line: It wouldn’t be there unless the team thought there was a reason for it.

All the "contact" guys are required to wear them I thought. Seems like I saw something about it last year.
For training anyway.

Some players are saying that they are actually MORE dangerous in the long run, because they shield you from getting your bell rung and they start to use their heads as weapons more. Then when they get to take off those thick pads, they forget and use their head as a weapon still.

One of the players asked why they use them for practice and not games. He asked if the NFL thought their brains were okay to try to save in practice for not when they needed the gladiator aspect for television.

Did anybody catch that 7-on-7 league that was tackle, but no helmets or pads?

I found it pretty interesting. Remember back in the 5th grade, and there was that one dude who was already shaving? 6” taller than everybody, and 40 pounds heavier. The guy could barely run, but you could not tackle him. Remember that game? Well, it is back! Most of the players were quite fit, and some where “hopefuls”, but they also had these bowling ball dudes who where the same height laying down. It was fun to watch though. Seahawks over-perform in 2022 with a dominant run game, and an extremely quick defense.

Me being a traditionalist thinks they look pretty cool.
Be a bitch for the helmet tech to get logos on right, but I kinda like it.

I know it’s only preseason but I always love watching the HOF game, it signifies the start of the season. Can’t wait!

Who’s your teams? I know the Seahawk folks and Peelout is a Lions fan. Who else?

My SD Chargers always disappoint but they r still my team. I’m hoping one of these days they will win the games that count.

Good luck to all of your fav teams

Loooonnngggtime Colts fan. The addition of Matty Ice has got me even more irrationally optimistic than I usually am pre-season.

I'll see how the Cowboys do this season, if we can lose the stupid wokism in the NFL and just watch the stinking game, sports will return to how it should be, non-sleazy politics and more action and cracking of skulls. Go Cowboys!

The NFL is merely a means to get top dollar for 9ers tix so that I can pay for other events like RHCP at the same venue/buy SeaHawks tix with the proceeds! Grinning

The Silicon Valley Sillies have turned good seats at a 9ers game into a real money maker.

When I want to watch actual “stick-n-ball” sports, I go to College and High School games. More fun, no big city madness, no $100 parking…not even at Stanford where we ride our ADVs and park for free.
Woohoo Grinning Kissing

I love that series. I find myself rooting for teams I would never care about after HBO shows you the human side of each team they cover.

Since 2019 football has gone down the crapper. Less politics more sports, leave the virtue signal whining in the parking lot nobody cares! Go Cowboys!

Man scams NFL to get a superbowl ring that got him around $100k- gets 3 years in jail

D Watson sexually assaults how many women, has to sit out 11 games with a new insane contract.

make this make sense to me... Watson should be banned from the league, IMO.

what i heard is that, Watsons lawyers were threatening to expose crimes of owners/gms if they did not settle on this 11 game deal.

I want to continue watching the NFL, but god damn they are making it difficult.

Go Vikes...
