Bullshit, I'll bet your fridge is filled with TV dinners, how often do you go out and kill dinner?...
One elk can last you for over a year. We put the meat in a fridge and any left over goes to the rescue mission at the end of the year.

Just like most movies...

"They" have to let the black people have a little hope. That's not how it ends around here...

Lenny, in my area the white-tail deer problem can get way outta hand and Parks & Wildlife need help keeping the population in check otherwise they would all starve.

Most hunters I know are responsible about conservation and are a necessary part of the eco system for most game animals.

You are either doing some good fishing with this thread or you are a city guy who has no clue about wildlife conservation.
If you want to conserve the deer in my area, you need to kill the mountain lions. My friend killed 2 lions on my mountain last winter. I'm like Jtom, I kill for the meat, my deep freezer is filled with pig, deer and lots of fish. I also can my own apples, pears, apricots, peaches and I grow a big garden of tomatoes, beans, zucchini, garlic and lots of other stuff. I just got some chickens, so I'm going to get some eggs and fresh chicken.

I hunt for the meat and only for the meat...

I shot an elk last year (while hiding in a bush, and killed him at 650 yards...100 yards would be too easy) on my grandpa's mountain....and was thinking of putting in for deer this year, but I just don't need the meat this year and so I passed.

And when my wife asks "honey, I'm hungry...what do you want for dinner?" I say "we've got a freezer full of elk THAT I KILLED LAST FALL...let me get you a package"...

My deep freezer is full of Pig (bought a fresh hog), beef (my neighbor and I each bought half a beef from my grandpa), and elk....

I haven't purchased meet from the store (besides chicken) since about October of last year...

And I wouldn't have it any other way..

Is the playing field level when hunting? No....but a mans gotta eat...and we can either eat free range wild animals...or go to the grocery store and eat animals that have been injected and fed 'who knows what' and raised in conditions that could almost be considered cruel.

I prefer the wild free ranging game animals...at least they lived a happy life until they were killed...and are better for my family.

You dont' have to like it, Lenny...but please understand that if you've never hunted (or had fresh meat for that matter) you just aren't capable of seeing this from any perspective but your own...that isn't bad (that you've never had the opportunity to hunt before), but definately puts you at a disadvantage in this arguement.

Len you sound like a real city slicker. C'mon out and shovel some manure with us - and we'll do some shootin. Be a whole new experience. Lot better than basic fire-arms training. Smile

Let him shoot some Killdeer with the 12 'Ger. Don't paste them to the ground this time though so they at least have a chance. Wink

I did some work at a hog processing plant a few years back... They kill between 8,000 and 13,000 hogs a day. ~BRUTAL~ Very, very little is wasted. There was a girl standing at the end of one line where the heads were split in half and she was scooping out the pituitary gland and placing them on dry ice. That's all she did all day...

I couldn't eat bacon for 3 months after that.

I'm not a fan of sport hunting. There's something about killing another animal to make up for a little dick that doesn't set right with me. Believe me though, I would kill your dog if I was hungry enough but I wouldn't get any joy from it. I support the whole concept of fish and game and culling the herd which, BTW, wouldn't be necessary if we hadn't killed off their natural predators but that's changed forever now. You "meat" hunters are spinning this a bit. You enjoy the hunt and the kill, or you wouldn't do it. I don't condemn the act of killing for food but I don't look to favorably on people who kill for fun.

Ok, so you just prefer to have someone else do the killing for you. Fair enough.

I don't go for the "shoot a giraffe to hang it's head on your wall" crap, but if someone wants to shoot game and eat it, what the hell? When I go into McDonald's I don't ask for a burger made only from the cows that committed suicide. Personally, I couldn't shoot a deer - think the only big game I could stomach shooting would be a wild hog. Other than trying to shoot stuff with a pellet gun when I was a kid, I've never been hunting. But this October I'm going rabbit hunting with a blowgun.
