Where were all the Star amateur kids at RCSX Daytona????

No one went??? Strange for the team being based in Florida right? I watched a lot of it. Didn’t see any star riders, but I could be wrong.

Daytona Am SX is a dying amateur event. Not many are required to do it contract wise…they’ll be at Texas this week though.

So the amateurs/teams want more races and access to pro like racing events, but don’t show up to a race at the pro venue? Makes sense.

What is the reason these races rise and fall in importance? Definitely seems like a great way to get practice and drops. Political industry stuff?

They were on the way to Freestone for the JS7 Spring Championship. We arrived today (Tuesday). Deegan, Leblanc, Hymes, Team Green guys and all the rest are already here. Practice is Wednesday, racing is from Thursday through Sunday.

6 amateur races a year and they end up scheduling 2 of them a week apart. Doesn't the same TV crew film both of them and stream it?

I’m guessing that for the Daytona event, in particular, there are a ton of other fees and expenses that come along with the event that make for an expensive day of racing. looks like they charge you for every little thing they possibly can on top of a pretty high race registration fee.

Cheaper for me to race Daytona than a dang regional.

The amateur SX at Daytona is an over hyped money grab.... If it lasts another 5 years by the way its going I'll be shocked. Today, the last day, the starting gate didn't even work. A national event with no functioning gate....... A person could stay home, race local, support your local track owners, and save money. And if they are real lucky, not have to share the track with a bunch of damn quads......

The track is nothing like the pro race day, it gets tamed down more and more every year. Freestone has much more weight to it, longer motos, rougher track…

Some can’t afford to do both back-to-back.

The amateur nationals we have need a major overhaul. Think about how many kids come through the ranks with support since they were on 80s and don’t make it. We need to go a route where they are racing alongside the Nationals and Supercross series.

They said during the Daytona race there were over 1300 riders in Daytona for the Amateur racing.

I'll rephrase my original comment.

You don't see a lot of the major amateur talent racing this event as it's not considered an "Amateur National" in the eyes of some of the OEMs, major brands, and industry. It's more of a fun race for the opportunity to race inside Daytona Speedway.

With JS7 Spring Nationals starting just days after it, most have turned their immediate attention to this venue due to time constraints. And some go to Spring-A-Ding the week after, making for a hell of a schedule that some can't support. Of the three events, the JS7 race at Freestone holds the most importance for the top amateur group, their sponsors, OEMs, etc.

A few top names do Daytona still as some have sponsors that see value in it but most choose to focus on Texas and move on. With the focus on an open class structure for lower level am classes and the quad race right after, the track has been tamed down more and more.

The Daytona race gets a really big turn out so it's not "dying" in terms of the race itself, I meant dying as in importance to the major amateur talent and their OEMs as it isn't what it was before.

I'm still amazed with the focus on SX once turning pro that the top amateur riders don't focus on the indoor and SX style "Big races".

Ya I honestly don't see the point in big outdoor races if your goal is to get to supercross. Why not chase the Hoosier and Kicker Arenacross series on Superminis and big bike and perfect your technical skills and bowl turns. I think that's why so many amateur kids struggle when they move up to supercross and get beat by the true privateers who are just focusing on supercross.

I looked into racing Daytona SX, would have cost around $1500 for the weekend(including watching the pro race)

Most of the top kids are racing Freestone

I've raced Lorettas, mini O's, us Open, bunch of regional stuff too and none compares to the fun level of Daytona.

Aside from some whacky speedway staff, it was great again this year.
