There a build up of Russian equipment including several helicopters along the border in Belarus, Zhelenskyy says Russia will try to take Kyiv tonight. Pray for everyone in that city, this may take a turn soon.

There will be talks between Russia and Ukraine tomorrow. About ceasefire.
If I was ukrainian, I would not trust a word. Back in 2014 Russia did multiple ceasefire, but everytime they just resuplied and relocated and attacked.

kongols thanks for the semi-close updates, especially since you have the language skills to understand more than most of us are able to from different sources.

The father in me hears these reports about attacks in cities and I simply can't even comprehend what that would be like. I had a hard enough time just keeping all my ducks lined up in getting my kids to school without the thoughts of where the next bombing would occur, etc. Just a crazy concept that I think gets lost on those of us who have never had to deal with anything remotely close to this sort of thing.

The fact that this sort of thing occurs to real families all over the globe is heartbreaking to anyone with a soul........

Kongols, prior to the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 wasn’t the headquarters for the KGB in Kyiv?

I don`t think so. Of Ukraine republic yes. Soviet Union KGB headquarters was in Lubyanka, Moscow.

I fail to see how Ukraines status as part of the USSR is relevant when the events of the past few days and years point to the majority of the citizenry rejecting Russian or Pro-Russian rule. Is there something you are seeing that I am not?

Just a question of historical nature. Nothing implied by it.

This Trump vs Biden bullshit is garbage in this instance.
If anyone thinks Putin would not have done this when Trump was in power, they are delusional.

Let’s be absolutely clear, Putin is doing this because he knows he can. It really is that simple.
It was clear to him the US and NATO were not willing to go to war with Russia over Ukraine. Trump was steadfast that he was not interested in looking after anyones interests other that that of the US.
There was zero chance he would have gone to war with Russia, so Putin would have done the same thing

So let’s just focus on what is happening now, not the left vs right crap
The 600,000 barrels of oil the US imports from Russia (daily) salute you.

Their historic connection was also part of point 1 of your post back on page 15. Back at the start of this thread I posted a link to the essay written by Putin and published in July 2021. I'll admit I didn't read through the whole thing and I do intend to get back to it but it is essentially a telling of the history between Russia and Ukraine. Just seemed like you brought up their history a couple times for some reason.

I don’t watch the news.
I read papers, reports, books and get some anecdotal stuff from people I know on the ground or insiders in the geo politics space.
kongols provides more than anecdotal stuff in my opinion. This opinion comes from years of lurking and reading his posts. Hope you have a good weekend.
You too man. He’s posting some good stuff for sure.

Ukrainian serviceman Vitaliy Skakun blew up a bridge in Henichesk in order to stop the advance of a tank column.
According to Ukrinform, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine announced this on Facebook.

"On this difficult day for our country, when the Ukrainian people are repelling the Russian occupiers in all directions, one of the most difficult places on the map of Ukraine was the Isthmus of Perekop, where a separate marines battalion was one of the first to meet the enemy," the statement said.

To stop the advance of the tank column, the decision was made to blow up the Henichesk road bridge.

The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces said that Vitaliy Skakun, an engineer of the separate battalion, volunteered to perform this task. The bridge was planted, but he did not have time to leave.

According to his comrades, Vitaliy got in touch and said that he was blowing up the bridge. An explosion was heard immediately. "Our comrade died. His heroic deed significantly slowed the enemy's advance, which allowed the unit to redeploy and organize the defense," the statement said.

On February 24, Russian troops seized the Kakhovka HPP and bridges across the North Crimean Canal, and all government agencies in the Henichesk district came under the control of the invaders.

So, what you’re saying is you have zero sympathy for a country under siege. Funny how you immediately throw out left, right shit. You go through most of these posts and many are at 50% thumbs up and downs. The division of
“PEOPLE” is saddening.
