I remember when I was young I didn't understand electricity, at least not until I stuck that fork into the receptable.

Hey, speaking of guitars. My daughter and future son in law got me a banjo for Christmas. I just got it last Saturday night. Apparently it got routed through Canada. Smile Picking it up pretty quickly.

I just learned a neat wood burning trick.

This guy is a retired Navy SEAL who uses this technique to make killer skateboards as therapy for himself. Really cool stuff.

I survived an arc flash on a 400 amp box.
It's a real deal.
I got really lucky.
It can blow you up

I had a saw cutter hit a 400 amp line buried in concrete a few years ago. I told the owner of the property to get the area we were cutting scanned (x-rayed). He said it was fine so, I sent out an email with him attached stating he didn’t want the imaging done. After he signed off on it, we began work the next day. Not even five minutes into cutting the line was hit. I’ll never forget the sound and the flash coming out of the concrete.
The section of the blade that was disintegrated was impressive and, scary at the same time. Not to mention what could’ve happened.

Scariest thing that's ever happened to me.

Me too! On some active duty operational support orders I had to get 7500 cadets commissioning packets cleared through my physical site. It was 110 degrees. Coukdnt operate in there. Was getting voltage drop when they gave us two portable ac units. So had to break two windows, and tap into the big hoss in the basement to keep them running. Now Al I found think about was cadet snuffy wandering in there and getting in between the hot and the nuetral somehow.

Power training was probably the best training I ever got In The army to date. It sure is useful.

July 4th weekend. No civ contractor support available. We used what we had. It worked.
Today I learned that Georgie is Profeshanals kin.

What was the fallout from the email and owner? I'd think deep shit of some kind

If you could smell and taste outer space it would taste like raspberries and smell like rum. Gas clouds contain ethyl formate which is what gives raspberries their flavor and rum it's smell. Crazy.

Very dangerous if you don't understand high voltage.
I actually remember that. Cool as hell.

BTW, electricity is one of my fears. Being electrocuted.

I've been zapped a bunch back in my tile days (short cuts and ignorance) and I can do little electric stuff like a light switch or install a ceiling fan, but beyond that, I call a guy.

Scares me to death

Biggest fears, electricity and horses. I can deal with it, but I am timid around both.

I also fear suffocation/drowning, has to be the worst.

Hey guys been around here for a while, but this is my first post. Well my brother wanted me to make him the Lichtenberg Wood Burning system. I told him I would look into it, but what I found out that they have been banned in all Woodworking shows and other stuff and so many people have lost their life using them. I told him wow those are crazy and a lot of people have been hurt and killed by them. He didn't care but we didn't talk about anymore. But I didn't know his oldest kid boyfriend made him one for x-max a few years ago and I think the 6th time he used it he made a mistake and it instantly kill him. And it was bad and burned him up and his wife found him like that - I won't say anymore because it was really bad. I hope you guys are really carful and please don't let what happened to him happen to you. Sorry about the crappy first post.

One little brain fart and poof. Youtube will shut people down for "misinformation" but they seem to be fine with showing people how to fry themselves. I said too much in my first post about how it's done so edited that part. Don't want to help somebody do what happened to your brother. Very sad story.
Welcome to Vital BTW.

But none of them will combust without an oxidizer. It's why rockets have to carry massive amounts of oxygen. Their fuel will not burn on its own. Explosive limits give you the amount of oxygen that needs to be mixed with it to combust. Without any oxygen, no flame. Basically I'm saying it's no longer "pure" if you add oxygen.

Ok. No argument there. Most people, however, erroneously think that oxygen is flammable in the same way that methane or propane is.

AKA Hindenburg; Hydrogen was flammable when introduce to 1% Oxygen.
Helium was a less potent element but good olé USA had that covered from Oklahoma to Kansas

I saw a documentary about venom extraction from scorpions when I was ten. I had one as a pet at the time so I was particularly interested. They were using low voltage electrical currents to do so. I figured I could do that. I cut the end off an extension cord, and taped all three wires to it. I placed the scorpion on my table and plugged the cord in. There was a loud flash, the breaker tripped and, I was left with a steaming scorpion splattered all over the wall.
Lesson learned. Don’t play scientist without the proper equipment. Woohoo

We weren’t responsible. The owner signing off on it was basically a document holding him liable for what happened. Although the customer initially tried blaming us, him signing off on it through the email was good enough for the owner of my shop to say, sorry buddy, that’s on you see, you signed off on us being responsible

I was thinking he would have had to cough up for damages of some kind. Good thing no serious injuries.

Oh they paid for a new saw cutting machine. I’m not sure what happened regarding the line that was hit. We completed our install and got the hell out of there lol.
