Cairoli leading MX1 world championship on a 400

So what, during the '70's right up the the late 80's almost no one had a 500cc motor for the 500's class. They were usually 370-425cc. I dont get the surprise here.

There were some good examples lately, like the 1st moto of Germany and the Latvian GP. AC smoked everybody in the last 10 minutes!

that's fine... why stop making the 450 then if teams can just tune it down to their liking? sounds better to start with too much and tune it down than to start with too little and max it out in my opinion.

Very interesting I guess the factories are starting to believe the same thing a lot of us are. I had a 98 YZ400 and while I know it bears almost no resemblence to the current GP bike AC is on it was and will remain the best powerband and the most perfect amount of power on any bike i've ever ridden

I think at the 2007 MXoN both Cairoli and Villopoto set faster laptimes than Ricky on the 450. Im sure Ricky was one of the few guys who could ring a 450s neck for a full moto but I still think he would have been faster on a 350. It just seems like it would be the perfect balance of power and weight. I know Stefan Everts believes that it would be the ideal displacement too.



Heres some interesting stats I pulled of the YS website (wich incidentally MxSports should go copy immediateley as theirs does suck very badly) It shows how cairoli winds himself up every race just getting faster as the race gos on. I would imagine this has something to do with his new lower displacement as he wasnt doing that before he made the transition to 400cc.

I've always thought 400cc was a better size than the 450. It keeps the 250 2-stroke competitive and leaves room for an open class. The little bike should be a 220cc.

That is not the final averaged race/lap times dumbass. We don't give two shits about timed qualifying in the USA. Means absolutely ZERO. We want our qualifier races back. not this euro shit.

Thats a break down of his laptimes in 3 seperate motos, one from Spain, one from Latvia and one from France, each being 20 laps long(35min + 2 laps). Its not his qualifying tiimes as you say, as they have qualifying races in GPs now. Silly tit.

moto gp guys dropped from 1000 cc's to 800 cc's and are running faster than ever.


We Americans like horsepower and it is counter intuitive for us to think about dropping cc's to go faster. But I know I was faster on a 125 than anything else.


I do pull for AC though... I think I just like his number!
