Sorry...couldn't resist. I know it isn't a bike. But it is a two stroke, it is a Yamaha and it was manufactured in America. For those that don't know, Arctic Cat manufactures most of Yamaha's snowmobiles for them (think the old Suzuki/Kawi days) in Thief River Falls Minnesota. The 800cc two stroke engine is manufactured in Minnesota as well.

Now...if it would just snow...

Now that's a surprise! I know lots of manufacturers do cross-branding, but I would not have expected that particular private label manufacturing. Yamaha tends to do manufacturing for other brands themselves (some Toyota cars, in fact!) I know that Suzuki made engines for lots of Arctic Cat ATVs in the past. I guess you build to your strengths.

not sure if yamaha still makes it but i rode one of those r1 streetbike motor powered sleds a few years ago, thingg was fasstt

You are talking about the mighty Apex and no they don't make it anymore. It was the last of the Yamaha sleds with a Yamaha chassis. The only thing Yamaha really contributes now is a killer 3 cylinder turbo 4 stroke that goes in both the Yamaha branded and Arctic Cat sleds. The inline 4 was one of a kind on the snow and the most bulletproof motor ever in a sled. They had a very unique character and were lethal on well groomed trails. I just sold one that I had had for 8 years. It really pained me to let go of it but we do a lot of miles in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and the trails get pretty beat up which was not that sleds forte with it's old school riding position, heavy weight and not great suspension. My brother had been riding it the last few years but he is moving on to a modern sled now also.

This isn't mine but it is exactly the same as my trusty "Rocket Tank"
