Question about Honda Tahitian Red paint code

Ok. So has anyone used above formula for Honda paint code Tahitian red with good results? I have a 77 cr125.

I took this formula to painter today and he says he uses PPG paint so he doesn't know what company this formula applies to??!! So it's not that good to him?? !! I don't know much but I thought a formula is a formula. Advice??

Also he quoted me $1500 to PAINT frame, tank and plastic on bike. It is completely disassembled. I found that a bit steep. It cost me $425 to POWDER COAT CR500 frame. Thoughts??

Next Question. What is closest PC color for tahitian red? I used Vermilion for 87 CR500 on advice of others with great results. It's a great match.

The guy that was the paint guru was Newmann, wish he was still with us as he was a great guy and a world of knowledge.

Color Rite sales spray can versions of Tahitian Red, I used some years ago and thought it seem a little brighter than stock paint.

For Powder Coat use RAL3020, it matches the VMX plastic perfectly. It is slightly darker then Tahitian Red but seems to be the standard for guys restoring CR's.

Here is a picture of mine with RAL3020 and VMX plastic. From what I have learned on this site and the old Honda-Elsinore page was to do the frame in a 80-85% gloss, which is the same as from the factory. Your powder coat guy can make that happen. For the tank, my painter took a number plate to the paint store where they were able to mix up paint to match the color.

Yes. Thank you. That thread plus another one I discovered in there were exactly what I needed.

Apparently National Auto body and Paint Supply in WA mixes R-23 tahitian red and quite well. Nice man named Kevin found paint code, remembers making some batches in past. I cannot find anyone around here who mixes it. "bring me a sample and I'm match it." I know there is some variation but I want the paint to be close to factory as possible. God knows I've spent enough money on this bike already. Damn sure aren't going to compromise on color at this point.

A quart plus a spray can is on the way to me. I will lyk the results.

Thank you. You're correct. VMX plastic doesn't match at all. I know first hand. I want as close to factory color as possible.

Paint has arrived. I put a bit on the shock body and it appears to match perfectly. I am seeing the painter tomorrow. It requires a clear coat.

What level of gloss on clear coat are you guys going with? Frame, tank, and new plastic from VMX are all to be painted. Medium seems about right. Someone attempted to paint it before and used high gloss. Maybe the red was too bright and the gloss too high for my taste. It was such a poor job also that could have some bearing. I don't know what levels of gloss for clear coat are available. It's for 77 CR125

I know nothing about paint. Advice, recommendations would be most appreciated. Painter used PPG materials.

I will post pics in a few weeks when he's done. Finding someone to mix Tahitian Red isn't easy. Thanks to the help on this thread, I got in contact with guy in WA. Color seems spot on.
