Hi everyone, I'm a Honda rider at Heart and I'm in the market for a new bike. Anybody know if there are any 450 Shootouts between the Factory and Works edtion 450's from Honda, KTM, Husqvarna and Kawasaki. I love the look of that new Kawasaki SR450 and wonder how it's gonna stack up. Never saw any Shootouts of the 2021 models, but maybe the magazines decided there isn't enough interest.

There definitely would be interest, not only from the readers but also from the magazine staff. I’m sure the shootout publication would appreciate the opportunity to test these bikes against the base models, too.

I think the reason you don’t see shoutouts is because there are probably no allocations for press bikes in the special edition ranks. These bikes are produced and sold in much smaller numbers and at a higher price.

I believe you’ll see some but the KTM and Husky are basically sold out, Kawi hasn’t hit dealers yet and the media outlets I heard that will do it are waiting for the new KTM and Husky that haven’t even been announced yet. Meaning you won’t see the feature until early February at the earliest.

Ktm and Husky would work just the same as the regular version, correct? The only thing that’s not
just cosmetic are the mufflers and triple clamps I think.

Essentially yes, but they also have the tuner unit from the factory. Wheels might be better (can’t recall), but that’s more of a durability thing than performance-related.

Not this year.
I mean it will be the first unveiling of the new platform we will see for the 23 MY bikes. Therefore it will be an improvement over the regular 22 MY bike.
Then, regular 23 MY will probably match it apart from the cosmetics and the triple clamps.

Dumb Q you think a silencer or a "hand ported head" bullshit makes a better bike?

They’ll all sell out with no additional press, and giving a magazine test bikes means taking a chance of a “the standard edition is better” review. I’d love to see them tested against all the bikes, but I’m not really expecting it.

Would kind of contradict the Gas Gas idea, which is to offer the lower entry point for the full size models

But idk lol

Gas Gas handily beat KTM/Husky models in both 450 and 250 Vital shootout. Apparently since the testers like that direction, "Factory Edition" can be the one that's even more basic than stock Gas Gas.

So KTMAction is waiting for the 23 model to test against 22's? Seems fair

They are, but it will not be the new platform, it will be based off the 2022 model.

I’m a Honda guy at heart also, but man that KX SR looks so good. I’m anxious to see how that KYB setup works right out of the box. I’m sure the coating and bigger shock shaft on the Honda RWE suspension is nice but it’s kind of lame that the they didn’t do anything special to the valving.
