Reigniting this thread after sparking it almost two years ago.
A couple weeks ago, I was sitting at my desk and finally said F it... I booked my trip to The Gold Creek Lodge for this August. I'm going solo, but the GCL was able to pair me up with another group. Stoked to meet some new people and ride some epic single track for a few days.
For those who have gone, what are some good things to bring? I have small USWE hydration packs (back and waist), but should I pick up something that holds more water and stuff, like a USWE 4L or 9L? Small tool pack? Anything odd but helpful that a first timer wouldn't think of otherwise?
Have fun man! The rental bikes are set up pretty bulletproof, all the guards, mousses etc. but maybe a small tool kit would be good. A pack big enough for a days worth of water and snacks is good too.
The further you get from the lodge the better the trails get, I love GCL but god damn has the popularity of it destroyed a lot of the trails around there. Dave and crew do their best to keep up on them but traffic is traffic.
I still haven't been, it's not exactly what the OP talked about, but how is the town Breker owns? Randsberg.
This thread brings the Bob Hannah story to mind about going camping.....
There are old miner cabins for rent and a hotel. Have to ride 10 miles or so to get into the good stuff at Spangler. Nothing fun around the town. We camp near Teagle Wash. The sand hills are epic and have climbs from beginner to expert. Across the valley you have the technical rocky hills east of Wagon Wheel ( Charlie’s Place ) and across the road from there you have a mix of technical and high speed stuff. Lots of good riding. Will be 112 * there this weekend.
I have a ranch in Eagle, CO near Vail, Glenwood Springs, Aspen, with direct private access to thousands of miles of trail in the back country on the Colorado Backcountry Discovery Route. Check out the Butler Maps. I have cabins on property, RV hooks up and plenty of camping. under hipcamp "vailvalleybackcountryaccess"
