KTM PR service screwed up. This was the text that we all will get upcoming Tuesday. Then he will give a big pressconference in Rome. I would love to see him race ISDE, Weston Beach race, Le Touquet,...

That would be news if it had happened 10 years ago. Today, the news would be if he renewed his contract.
As once one legendary journalism lecturer said. ''The news is not when a dog bites a human, but when a human bites a dog''Smile
Do you remember such a names like Villopoto, and Dungey who are in the legends category already? Their last races were like decade ago, and Villo is 3 years, and RD is 5 years younger than Tony.
Tony Cairoli is a absolute living legend, who still wins races, and is still in the championchip hunt
For me, he could hang his boots tomorrow. I would be OK with that
What a career

Sometimes i barely like him because he is a winer and hate to loose against herlings, gajser or prado and dont want to give a high five ...
But he is an absolute legend, one if not the greatest of all time...
I was at mxon in 2013 in germany and he destroy the field, half way race he is cruising and later he put the hammer down and won... he has something special and a text book style.
Not my favourite but he always going to remebered as one of the greatest, he has all of my respect.
True hero and worker for his achievemients, long live Ac222!

He'll never come to America. He's made a ton of money in MXGP, has won more than his share of championships, and has a huge fanbase. Why would he come here to be hated on by American social media, get flipped or booed at the tracks and generally disrespected like most every rider that has ever come here from Europe before him. He's a smart guy...he stays in his lane.

Huh? The French get unfairly ridiculed but that’s it. Roczen is the face of the sport and the most popular rider we have taking that crown from Reed who also was not American. Reed at first was not as loved but he did that to himself. AC would be worshiped by a majority. I agree he would never come over nor should he but to claim that the media and fans wouldn’t go bat shit crazy for him is idiotic.

Idiotic...not at all. I do agree, to a point. But, as much of a hero as he is to so many MXGP fans...what is the possibility that Tony would come here, and not do well? I mean, there is a huge difference between racing there and racing here. On top of every other reason that he would never come here...the possibility that he wouldn't make the splash many might think he would.
Idiotic is a strong word, so no to that. He’s not coming and would never but in a fantasy world and he did he would probably have good and bad races but it wouldn’t matter he would be the “show” everywhere he went. He’s too old for criticizing and finally after years and years Americans recognize his legend.

Amazing career!

I don't think we've seen his peak since the crash at the 2014 MXdN in Latvia. What a way to go out. He's been in the mix and has turned the clock back on a number of occasions this season, particularly the second moto at Lommel and the first moto in Turkey this week.

He'll be missed in 2022 if this is true.

I think AC222 could have done great things over here. He has/had the style to be a winner in SX. Personally, I’m glad he stayed in the GP’s and created a legacy. He’s the single reason I started watching and continue to follow the GP’s with hopes he gets on top of the box every race.

Whatever he does, you can’t argue that he played this sport perfectly. He won, and when he had areas of his game that were lacking (sand), he moved his program and became one of if not the best to ever do it.

All the respect for AC222

Allways had a soft spot for him and its hard not to like him

I would like to see him to do his last season for TM without the corporate pressure to try and promote the brand, but I guess his way is 100% or nothing

I love your thought process here! Would love to see him on the TM, and even do a few US rounds of outdoors......I know, dare to dream, but I've never seen him "live" and would love that opportunity! As an American, he is an unknown quantity to me, but mad respect for that career!

You know...I have to pretty much agree with your entire post. I kind of hitched onto AC several years ago (his having the lovely Jill as his partner didn't make things any worse, that's for sure), and became a real fan of his. I probably would not have had nearly the same interest in MXGP as I do now if it weren't for Cairoli. I've always thought he was classy, humble & was a good guy...along with being a great rider and champion. He reminds me of RC4 in so many ways...especially his penchant for upping his program to match or even surpass the strengths of younger GP riders he competed against each season, so he would still have the edge. A true championship caliber rider.

Hope all this is false, and he rides out his contract...but, whatever the outcome, hats off to Tony Cairoli.

Anybody who would disrespect AC222 on either side of the pond can kiss my ass. There’s not many if any that could emulate his standards and achievements on a dirt bike, more importantly we could all aspire to be like him off a motorcycle. The way he conducted himself over the years with modesty and social grace is very humbling. That’s the most admirable part of his legacy, shine on AC222.

I met Tony at the MXGP at Glen Helen. Total class act. The KTM team wanted him to stay in the pit area And he refused. Spent all the time he could walking around talking to everybody.

Weigandt is going to cover this in Rome apparently.

Ask yourself - If Tony is just retiring, why is KTM paying tor US Journalists to fly to Italy to cover it?

There is a lot of stuff I can't mention, I have a European guest in my home with some sources. We will see how it turns out.

It is not mentioned a lot but Tony and his wife have spent some time in the off seasons in La Jolla and Orange County ...

Brent stamped it, TC222 is coming to the US for the outdoor Nationals next season!

(:

I hope that it is true, given Tony's ability to "step up" despite those who doubt him. I think that would be awesome to see someone of his legend status flip the script on RV2 and come to the US for a career finale season.

AC a legend, would be cool to see him win the championship this year.
