You speak in riddles. Are you saying no ones complaining but they should be complaining ? Who’s complaining ? Are you complaining no ones complaining? What do mean ? Something’s worded funky there...

If you are going to start a discussion others should at least be able to understand your position.

Before spending your free time contemplating the positives and negatives of wood chips I would suggest a little reading,

Both of them suck ass, its just a cheaper version of sand that doesn't work as well. Trying to get a softer dirt on the top soil requires a ton of time blading and turning the dirt as deep as you can to get it to work in. Its not fun to ride on

Years back, my local track threw down a ton of wood chips and it was awesome. It held moisture, was soft and provided traction all day. It didn't seem to last long though.

Serious question, what's the issue with wood chips? Is it just a short term solution that creates a bigger issue eventually or??

Am I the only one who doesn’t give a shit if the dirt isn’t ideal ? Different tracks have different dirt. Sand, clay, loam, hard packed dg, they are what are. Too old school ?

Maybe it shouldn't be added just before the national, but you must put organic matter there or else the dirt ends up with only it's mineral part.

Ever ridden in a crop after harvesting and felt the most amazing grip? It's because it's top soil, not just sand. Dirt in a track gets beaten regularly and ends up being just sand that doesn't absorb water, etc. Adding woodchips or hay is definetly a positive.

This.^

I've raced many natural terrain vintage races on stubble fields and the surface is ideal.

On an MX track unless woodchips are properly tilled in they are prone to washing off and floating to the lowest points in rain.

I mixed sawdust into the hardpack sections of my own track for years, did wonders to loosen up the soil. Doesn't turn to powder when it gets really dry either. Eventually it just breaks down into black dirt.

Super fine saw dust can get through the foam vents on goggles. (Levi Kitchen)
It works good to a degree keeping track dust down and soil loose. Wood chips have to be a specific size in order for it to work right. Too much/big can create slippery conditions.

Sawdust probably can irritate your eyes but according to Kitchen's Instagram he had fuel splash.

Did anyone not watch FERRANDIS interview after time quals? He said it made it so sketchy for the riders and wasn't a fan. Dirt vs wood chips? I get why the put them in but shouldn't replace the dirt IMO. Clear enough?

And before being an ass know it all... You could do the same. Very reason I hate even coming on this place.

It also seems to give me a sore throat breathing in the dirt. I must be slow eating more roost than others.

Totally agree..However, As RC was critical of Red Bud for MXON he had a point. At some point if your going to be a national track you have to replace the dirt. Top soil or whatever you want to call it. Huge undertaking and I get that.

I don't care either but lets throw in an ice rink with a little water. Doesn't replace dirt.

Seems like he’s reaping the benefits of doing it long term. The place is great!

It’s a fine line. We use both in our tracks. I prefer sawdust ripped in deep then watered heavy. I Till the next day. Our dirt is topsoil over clay no rocks at all. There’s a lumber mill just down the street and I get an 18 wheeler load of fresh fir for $75. When I get it right it’s the best dirt you’ll ever ride. Wood chips are very difficult. Need to be the right size and amount to work. Easy to fvck up.

Saw dust tilled in is awesome. Wood chips if small enough are ok and create more braking/acceleration bumps. Anyone who complains about either had a bad day and used it as an excuse.

I think of you could till them in and give them time to decompose then you would get some nice loan but till them in and run it will be odd.

I'd be piling them up beside the track when I could get them, letting them break down and then adding them.

I rode on Friday practice and I thought the sawdust was awesome. I've ridden on sand, clay, top soil, loam, wood chips, and this was by far my favorite. It was my first time on sawdust also. I hope they don't take it out next year.

Wasn't there so don't know which one, but there is a difference between saw dust and wood chips. Can see wood chips being a PIA if they are wet and big. Saw dust works wet or dry
