Replaced my piston(vertex) and got my cylinder plated 15 hours ago. It looks to me like it’s got lot of wear, black coating pretty well completely gone. I usually replace pistons at 30 hours and they always look way better than this one.
Do I run this piston another 15hours or slap a new one in?

Did you check the cylinder to wall clearance before going back together with it?

No I didn’t.
I took it apart and got it measured at a local shop. They told me the cylinder is at the smallest side of the spec, and doesn’t have enough clearance.

2 thou is clearance for a 125 for example. Different with a Wiseco being a forged one. Vertex is what comes as the stock piston in ktm, husky,, gas gas.
You can bypass the dealer and use a .002 feeler gauge for checking. Those coatings are pretty durable. I'm am also thinking the clearance is too tight. Plater should have had YOUR PISTON as his clearance guide. I'm done rambling now.

I checked the clearance. Seems slightly tight in spots with a 2 tho gauge.
When I bought the piston the plater assured me as long as I use an “A” piston it would be fine.

Its probably fine dude. I ran a coated pro x piston in my yz125 when I did too/bottom end. realized trans was wrong after running the bike for less than half an hour. when I tore back apart most of the coating was already gone and that piston did 15 hours no problem, my usual 125 interval.
